Since I've spent some time on X discussing @Labour's policy to impose #VAT on #schoolfees, I've prepared this note addressing both issues discussed in @TheIFS report and some of the points regularly raised on this app. I hope it's of use. Feel free to share. 1/5

@UKStopWhinging @DanielJHannan The limitations on freedom of speech are minimal and rightly so. The standards applicable to public and professional life are much more stringent. Gwynne breached those latter standards. The fact that his comments remained within the broad confines of free speech is irrelevant.

@DanielJHannan It's not a free speech issue. Gwynne is perfectly entitled to his views and it is his right to express them freely, but that's (very obviously) not the point.

@dave_mcpartlin Are you referring to @Miss_Snuffy? Sounds more like @bphillipsonMP to me. She's the control freak.

@AgainstInsulate @PolitlcsUK @thetimes That seems to be the underlying intention, but your point just emphasises how the revenue generating justification for the policy was a pack of lies from the outset. It's all about state control of education, regardless of the cost.

@PrimroseViews Agreed, which is why I included the word 'ultimate'. Winning is just a means to an end.

@KitPeacock I'd say that's inevitable. I disagree with almost everything that the Labour Government is doing, but I support their apparent intention to expand our nuclear capacity. It's also OK to disagree with your political allies.

"Academies and free schools have specific freedoms that have enabled them to innovate and improve student outcomes. These include the freedom to not follow the National Curriculum, hire unqualified teaching staff, set teacher pay and vary their timetables. The Government’s schools bill proposes to end many of these freedoms, threatening the academy programme’s legacy of school improvement in England."

RT @RobertJenrick: Starmer’s Chagos surrender deal is collapsing so quickly it’s hard to keep up. Here’s what we’ve learnt in the last few…

@DPJHodges The fact that they're making it up as they go along doesn't mean that the policy isn't hard left garbage. They are the scorpion. We are the frog.

@CreEnglish The children who would otherwise have been at those stronger schools (along with their pushy parents) will help to raise standards at the weaker schools. Their sacrifice will not be in vain. It is for the greater good, comrades. Right?
