My second PhD paper came out recently! Here we presented the effects of freeze-dried lactic acid bacteria (FD-LAB) on Vibrio parahaemolyticus quorum sensing and also how its dietary supplementation shaped the gill and gut microbiota of shrimp.

Inspired by this, we did this study to figure out if Talisay can interfere with bacterial communication and enhance the immune response of an aquaculture shrimp species! We hope this may eventually be used by the shrimp industry and also entice Talisay farming for this purpose!

I'm so proud of my students for publishing a paper on biofilm dispersal. This was their output during their short stay in our lab. :-)

Recently published a paper on bibliometric analysis of AHPND (a shrimp disease) research in SEA. PH lagged behind its neighbors while TH was a powerhouse in terms of outputs. Over the last decade, focus shifted from disease characterization to treatments.

Yesterday, I was invited by my lab back at Mahidol Uni (Bangkok) to listen to our students present their theses and help them prepare for their defense. They also held a "mini virtual send-off" for me and some of my former labmates who are going abroad for our PhDs. πŸ₯³

Having the opportunity to introduce them the world of (microbio/molbio) research is what I consider my greatest accomplishment thus far. I guess seeing a student appreciate what they do is more fulfilling than a completed research work. 🀣

Since QS regulates various bacterial mechanisms involved in pathogenesis, this communication system may serve as a target to combat infections. In this review article, we discussed how this may be applied in Vibrio harveyi infections in Whiteleg shrimp.

Earlier this year, we had a paper published re screening of local Bacillus sp. isolates for their production of two enzymes. We found out that the isolates did not produce amylase alone. Quite interesting but yet to be determined exactly why. @pinoystempapers

Our new paper aimed to elucidate the specific mechanisms of action of Ikmo (Piper betle L.) against the cell-to-cell communication system of Vibrio harveyi β€” an important pathogen in Penaeus vannamei shrimp farming. Full text: @pinoystempapers
