Yesterday, students in my course Critical Black Masculinities and Education course hosted an interactive showcase for a self-published zine curated and designed by them. Their theme was “Defining Love”. So proud of them. This creative work is truly a curriculum! @BrownEduDept

Also it’d be ridiculous if I didn’t shoutout some of those that have made my journey into evaluation work possible! @WECuwmadison @aeaweb @NSF and the GEDI family! This course is my mini contribution to a long legacy of culturally responsive evaluators.

The beauty about today is that we truly are at square one again and have to ask to everybody: What is change? What is a coalition? What is a movement? No lazy or shortcut answers will move us forward in any productive way about these. We are returning to the foundational work.

We should spend more energy unpacking the messages underneath this genre that undoubtably have (and will) shape what is said, done, and desired by policymakers, community advocates, and the like.

It was fun to ask students what they think should have been discussed in the presidential debate last night. The absence of discussion around educational issues was wild. All we got was some playful and haphazard reference to student loan forgiveness, smh.

Day 1: Today was syllabus overview for my Politics and Public Education class, but it didn’t lack thrill! After a last minute classroom shift due to the class having 80+ registered students (!), we settled into a guiding question. “What people, places, and missions ground you?”
