The Shape Of Water - My heart is so full. Maybe Del Toro’s best film? It’s certainly a much more strange effort than had been expected. Violence is heightened but so are the emotions, culminating in a sequence that left my jaw on the floor.

Cha Cha Real Smooth - Raiff’s latest is a doozy, an endlessly sweet and tender coming of age picture that takes the cliches of the genre and subverts them by being almost comically sincere. Stakes are surprisingly high thanks to the ace performances, particularly that of Johnson.

Down With Love - haven’t seen this in probably 13 years, but this is a gut buster. Both genuinely funny and incredibly daring formally, I’d have to rewatch Bring It On but I think this might be Reed’s masterpiece. Timing is on point, energy is off the charts. Manic. Perfect.
