As a fan of the time travel films like BACK TO THE FUTURE and astronaut dramas, I didn't see a lot of Black people on my screen. Definitely not as the lead.
So, I decided to write one.
Here's the trailer for our Black boy sci-fi thriller THE BOY WHO PROMISED THE MOON

The scene at the end of Set It Off where Stoney is in the motel after her friends died gets at me every time. This movie did not get the credit it deserves. F. Gary Gray did his thing and deserves his flowers.
Viola Davis' portrayal of Annalise is one of the greatest in the history of television
And Annalise Keating herself one of the greatest characters in the history of television, up there with Breaking Bad's Walter White.
I don't think there are many male actors that can go toe-to-toe in a scene with an actresss as powerful as Nicole Beharie.
But if you just hear me out...
After HBO, Netflix, FX, & everyone else passed on YELLOWSTONE, Taylor Sheridan refused to fly to LA to pitch his show to Paramount. They had to fly him out on a private jet. He told them he wouldn't accept notes nor turn in outlines. They ordered it to series anyway.
Legend.
Just a reminder that both Kim FIelds and Erika ALexander deserved multiple Emmy nods for their roles on Living Single. Their comedic timing was everything. The cast of Friends could never.
I'm a Black screenwriter who writes emotionally resonant, grounded, Amblin-esque sci-fi where Black kids ร adults come in contact with extraordinary beings or circumstances. Influenced by Octavia Butler, Spielberg + Stephen King.

I'll be a major showrunner. I will be an A-list writer-producer-director & get a first look-deal from a major network. I'll win at least one Oscar. I will change the game. I will be a major showrunner. I will be an A-list writer-producer-director. I'm manifesting. It will happen.

Thereโs
@jujuwebseries
on YouTube. Whole first season is on there and isnโt a slave story. Itโs about 3 millennial black witches in Brooklyn. Think

. Get into it!
Nickelodeon was all kinds of disre-damn-spectful for canceling this show after two seasons, all because they thought it only appealed to just girls, in spite of HIGH RATINGS.

There are plenty of up and coming Black filmmakers writing plenty of scripts for Black actors and actresses.
For the major Black stars who complain there aren't enough interesting leading roles, I've got news for you.
We're writing them. You're just not looking hard enough.
My script was read in front of Best Picture Oscar winning filmmakers last night. They loved it and we went for dinner afterwards. Gratefulโจ

What if the first person to walk on the Moon was Black?
I wrote a sci-fi story about a Black gay time traveller who rewrites a family legacy and falls in love with another Black time traveller. Set against the backdrop of NASA.

I always felt the Terminator movies lost steam when they strayed away from the tale of Sarah Connor. It was Sarah's story.
The same way Halloween was Laurie's story. And Aliens as Ripley's story.
It wasn't about the monsters
It was about the women who conquered them.
The teaser trailer for our Black boy sci-fi thriller THE BOY WHO PROMISED THE MOON will premiere on Thursday, May 9th at 12PM EST.
Can't wait to share the fantastic work of our cast and crew.
Thank you to everyone who helped bring this to life.

Remember the Black guy on your TL who's always talking about Amblin-esque sci-fi and time travel?
He turns 28 today and you'll seeing him takeover the film world and your TV screens without warning for years on end.
MARK MY WORDS.
If you have not seen
@MJtheMusical
please remedy that. It's the best show on Broadway. Not only a great musical, but an excellent character study on Michael Jackson. Myles Frost gives the best Broadway performance this year.
Hey fellow creatives!!
I'm a director, writer and producer for a Black fantasy web series inspired by Alice In Wonderland and we're currently casting for actors. It would mean the world if you can spread the word. Please support Black creatives.
As someone who is a self confessed astronomy and space nerd, I love stories like Interstellar and First Man. However, I didn't see a lot of stories with Black people in sci-fi, or as astronauts.
So I made one. ๐๐พ

Since we're here.
I'm a Black screenwriter + filmmaker who creates emotionally grounded Amblin-esque sci-fi where Black people come in contact with the extraordinary.
Currently in development:
Judging something based on if it fits solely into a "Black joy vs Black trauma " box is reductive and means you don't know how to decipher a good story. Period

This Sat at 5pm I'm hosting a Zoom meetup: a safe space and escape for fellow Black scifi writers.
If you're an up and coming Black scifi writer, let's discuss projects were working on, favorite pieces of scifi, ways to support one another and tired genre. DM for more info.
I would love to have a Zoom session with other up and coming Black sci-fi writers. Just to discuss projects, favorite pieces of sci-fi, tired genre tropes, and passion for the genre.
