After much tinkering, I finalized my OHL Draft rankings last night. It was admittedly hard to weigh the OHL Cup vs. trusting the work I've done all year. There is no correct answer, but it was tricky to find a balance.

Evaluating defending is one of the biggest challenges in hockey.
Our brains are hardwired to register events that occur, but a lot of defending is what *isn’t* happening, which isn’t as easy to process, especially while watching in real time.
One of my biggest pet peeves in hockey analysis is the notion that if you didn’t make a critical mistake directly leading to a goal, you deserve zero blame.
There’s more to defensive play than making direct mistakes. *Preventing* goals from happening is just as important. (1/5)

Valentini, Nyman, & now Hage is an absurd haul for Michigan.
Hage finished the year at 11 on my 2024 OHL Draft rankings but spent good chunks of the season within my top 10.

I was leaning toward Schaefer at 1 after the Canada Winter Games, and it just became more and more obvious as I watched him over the past month. He is miles ahead of the next best defender and has the tools to become a top-pairing defenceman at the OHL level.

I get wanting to get excited over players, but for so many reasons, it shouldn't be something that we just throw around lightly.

Cooper Dennis is one of my favourite players to watch in the '07 class. He's so dynamic and electric that I instantly became a fan of his game.
After being released from the NTDP, I thought he might test the waters in the OHL, but it seems like that won't be the case.

I had the chance to see Zach play a few times last season at the Marlies tournament. He's such a fun and exciting player who oozes skill and confidence. Really excited to see how his game evolves, as the potential is enormous.

The Guelph Storm had a stellar Rounds 1-3. Quinn Beauchesne (14th) and Rylan Singh (43rd) were two of my favourite defenceman this season.
Parker Snelgrove (30th) and Will McFadden (31st) are a good mix of certainty and upside back to back that makes sense.

At the start of the year, I would have never guessed Wathier would end up in my first round, but he just got better and better as the year went on.
There’s still so much room for him to continue to develop, and two years with the NTDP before joining BC could do him wonders.

Lots of talent in this group that I’m excited about. A few will drop in the draft with opting for the NCAA route, but still exceptional players that I’ve enjoyed watching this season.
Jacob Cloutier is one that stands out as a potential value pick in the mid-late first.
It is officially draft day! Our final list saw many changes among the Top 10 forwards, including Waterloo Wolves forward Brady Martin moving up into our 2nd spot after a fantastic OHL Cup.

I've been grinding the past week and caught over 30 games so far with plans to get that to 40 over today & tomorrow. So, it's safe to say I have many thoughts to put to paper to release over the next bit.
My brain hurts, but I'm glad to be back in OHL draft mode.
The Toronto Marlboros have won the Toronto Titans Early Bird Tournament, defeating the North York Rangers 2-1 and finishing with a perfect undefeated record of 8-0!

I ranked Chase 15th for the 2023 OHL Draft, so certainly a big fan of his game. He’s such a smart player, manages the puck so well, and has one of the best releases in the ‘07 Ontario class.

Kitchener also did really well. Cam Reid (10th) and Luca Romano (11th) are two players they can build around. Tanner Lam (41st) is a home run swing of all home run swings and at the end of the 2nd is great value. Matheas Stark (47th) is rumoured to be NCAA bound, but who knows!

The omission of Lev Katzin is a major surprise. I've thought he's been Marlies best player some nights and would have had him as a lock to make the final roster.
Team Ontario evaluation camp rosters for the 2023 Canadian Winter Games have been announced. The roster features the majority of our preliminary top 25 and many players that will be included when our top 40 is released next week.

Bridgewater is one of the most mobile defenders in the class. He can move in any direction so effortlessly, and that alone makes him a great selection in the fifth round.
The

have selected Halton Hurricanes defender Casey Bridgewater. Bridgewater is highly mobile and was our top-ranked defender available.

Another month of viewings in the books. Matt Schaefer was tremendous at the Marlies Holiday Classic and has separated himself as the top defender in the class.

Learning that Jaxon Cover is in his 4th year of hockey is absolutely mind-blowing. He's been one of the players I've been most impressed with in the second half of the season, landing at 50th on my final list.
The Michigan is nice too.
I know Michigans are becoming almost routine these days, but this is U15 AA (my town’s Aurora Tigers—bias admitted) and the player, Jaxon Cover, has only been playing hockey for three years.

Lorenzo Canonica was deserving of a selection in the

Aidan Lane was one of the top complimentary scoring wingers in the 07 OHL Class. There’s lots to appreciate in his game, but his ability to spot and time himself into open space always stood out to me as an element that will help drive results as he moves onto higher levels.
