FND is common. Studies varied widely, but based on the best studies, the estimated prevalence of FND is at least 80-140/100,000 (and likely higher). This means that in the UK, there are an estimated minimum of 50-100,000 people living with FND and in the US 265-480,000 5/

It's not easy studying how common FND is. It’s a diagnosis that usually has to be made in hospitals, and there are many things that could lead to underestimation and, less commonly, overestimation 4/

We wanted to find out just how common this disorder is, to help understand how to prioritise clinical and research funding. We reviewed 39 articles looking at the incidence and prevalence of FND.3/
