Presenter on YO1 Radio in York 10-12. Enjoying an exciting new challenge with a great bunch of community-minded folks! (Former BBC)

So, as of midnight, officially that’s it. Goodbye and thank you. Best of luck to respected colleagues who remain. 34 years. It’s been a blast (mostly). Hopefully new things ahead.

For many people working in BBC Local Radio 2023 will probably go down in history as a year of sadness, uncertainty and stress. For many listeners it will be the year that the service they loved & depended upon changed beyond recognition.
I hope those responsible will reflect…
A small gluten-free celebration to mark the end of my first week at Y01 Radio in
#York
. Two catch-up sessions with former BBC York colleagues. Now very glad to be in a happier place with new folks who are less stressed!

In the midst of all the real concern about
#flooding
in some parts of
#York
great to see this magnificent landmark bathed in February sunshine today - City open for business as usual
#floodaware
…on the unhappiness that they have caused.
It was the year when long service & loyalty didn’t count.
They have succeeded in damaging something that was good in the name of progress.
Here’s hoping that 2024 is a better year for all those who’ve been affected by these brutal cuts
I am delighted to get a “Like” from
@RevRichardColes
- Predictably the subject of the tweet, Podger the broadcasting

of
#York
remains rather underwhelmed.
If anyone in the world of
#HR
was looking for the perfect example of awful ‘change management’ they needn’t look any further than what’s happened to
#BBCLocalradio
. Nobody is happy or convinced it’s the right plan. Not staff, not unions nor listeners

A tiny group of people has inflicted deep unhappiness & stress on 1000s of colleagues and
#BBCLocalRadio
listeners They earn vast salaries in comparison to their colleagues (£275k) They must be called to answer for their bad decisions - Chris Burns, unavailable

Salute to one of the all time greats of BBC Local Radio. David Burns presenting his final show on

Moving and highly justified tributes to a fantastic broadcasting career & a great champion of local life

@RadioHumberside
So he finally turns up with a dirty face & just 10 minutes of the show on
@BBCYork
remaining! Not good enough. He should be stripped of title of Assistant Presenter - Podger alleged broadcasting

I’m so sorry it’s come to this. I had hoped to end my working life with the BBC. It has been a wonderful employer over the years.
Now generations of great broadcasters who would have begun their careers in LR won’t get the chance. What a tragic lost opportunity. Terribly sad.
Fantastic mood in the
@BBCYork
studios this morning as we were joined by Betty - She’s a Pets As Therapy dog who visits patients on the

&
#dementia
wards at

Hospital. A wonderful little character 😃

A small visitor arrived in the darkness last night to eat cat food & have a drink of water. A great shame that

Not the best day for the sunshine...... but the
#daffodils
on the walls of

are still stunning 😀 (Should we be trying to fill in the gaps & "bald" bits?)
That’s right! Stop me getting to the mic, keyboard, notes & the mouse... Not helpful behaviour from Assistant Presenter Podger, broadcasting

Some people must know that they are regarded as utter scum - the lowest of the low.
I hope they find it impossible to sleep at night knowing what mental pain they have caused to decent hard-working colleagues.
They should be made answerable for their actions.
Is it just me or is it true that most of daytime tv is middle aged English couples constantly repeating the words “Oooh - this is a good size room isn’t it?”
Has anyone seen any guidance for people in the
#shielding
group? I didn’t pick up any reference to the 1m+ of us in this group. Are we stuck in lockdown until a
#vaccine
is created? (I’m asking for me, not a friend).
Just sat in a newly opened
#York
cafe for 10 minutes. I was hoping for a gluten-free breakfast. Nobody came to take an order. I left. Sometimes I think this city needs to up its game a bit?
Dad enters the room to the sound of gunfire from the TV - it’s a proper old fashioned Sunday afternoon cowboy movie.... “Is that the House of Commons? - I thought perhaps they were finally shooting it out”. Dad is 91 & a wit.
The scaffolding phase of Shakespeare’s Rose Theatre in
#York
is almost complete. Technical work on the lights & sound systems is underway. It’s an amazing project.
Overheard in a
#York
coffee shop Woman “I’ve bought him a DNA testing kit for Christmas” Her friend “What? Like ‘Merry Christmas - the kids aren’t yours.....”

Help or hindrance?
Really enjoyed chatting to Dr Tim Gregory today on

about

& his research into the origins of the planet.

What incredible enthusiasm, expertise & passion for his subject. He’s the next

Thank you - And thank YOU for a remarkable 15 years of service. I won’t ever forget “What do you want Mr Cowap? - You only ever call me “Your Grace” when you want something....” Very best wishes for whatever comes next!
Dad : “Has Jeremy Corbyn resigned?”
Me : “No Dad - I don’t think so...”
Dad : “Well there was something about him on ..... But I couldn’t really see because of these daffodils....”
