RT @sharonlambert0: Unfortunately I can't share any links to today's updates on drug use & the programme for Gov. All the articles contain…

@WalleyRay Depends on how the question is asked. If you say what drugs did you first do you count alcohol, tobacco or caffeine as drugs. Some people choose some drugs some choose others, one does not lead to the next.

@CBarrett47 @GramsdB This is just 1 study but there are many that show the same results. Lower deaths, hospital admissions and ambulance calls close to a safe injection site.

@CormacJOKeeffe @irishexaminer The delay is almost exclusively because the government insists possession must remain a crime. Despite all the evidence that it doesn't work and causes more deaths and harm.

@CianOConcubhair @AontuIE It makes because both are making a moral judgement. Drugs are "bad" so nobody should take them so make it illegal. Ignores the reality than people have always and always will take drugs of all types.

@Gerard34326771 @neasa_neasa @drugscrisis Drugs could be any more accessible now. People can get any drug delivered or collect themselves within minutes.

@r_crainn @NatalieORegan1 @SeeryKearney @votemaryfitz @PaulMcauliffe @neasa_neasa @Ginosocialist Some fairly big fails from our political parties. Particularly the FG and FF committee members who have backed away from their recommendations within days.
Local drug project coalition @drugscrisis urges all political parties to implement recommendations of citizens assembly on drugs & Oireachtas committee regarding decriminalisation of drugs and investment in disadvantaged communities

@TweeterReynolds One of the key lessons I have seen in the USA is the over commercialisation of cannabis which I think can increase the negative outcomes

@Gerard34326771 @neasa_neasa Prohibition doesn't work it never has and it never will. The harms caused by criminalisation are far greater than the drugs themselves

@b_minish @CianOConcubhair @FineGael @fiannafailparty And the rep from the AGS didn't give any such evidence to the committee

@CianOConcubhair What doesn't make sense is there seems to be very little public outcry to maintain the status quo.

@CianOConcubhair @labour Far more promising than the current FG position which effectively says AGS have a veto on drugs policy.

@SeeryKearney @davidstantontd Are you able to explain the FG policy on drugs? Harris and Mcentree are saying that Gardai don't recommend a change. This wasn't the AGS position at the committee. What was the point of the CA and the committee? We could have just asked AGS behind closed doors

@Jon_S_Desoto_MS @BillKristol Presumably the point of recess appointments was to get approval for nominees when the Senate is not in session. Not to get through nominees who would otherwise not be approved.

@WalleyRay Cannabis has all ready been normalized. It use is widespread, increasing and it is available instantly for anyone who wants it.

@fiannafailparty @votemaryfitz This is not in line with the Committee recommendations. In sounds like a slight modification to the current approach. And almost every expert told the committee the currency doesn't and won't work. Prohibition does more harm than the drugs themselves
