@EllaFrears Diary of a Film by Niven Govinden is unbelievably good.& you have Lahiri I guess? Also there is lots of good Italian Henry James, and Forster, and that bit in Middlemarch. Also Cusk's The Last Supper. Oh and Lawrence's Etruscan Places! Wow I like a lot of books set in Italy

@BenWilko85 @neilsonandrew @thedarkhorsemag Yeah! But wait can you see what I mean about the original quote not implying this but instead setting up an opposition between 'poetry' on the one hand and 'social and political issues' on the other?

@neilsonandrew @BenWilko85 @thedarkhorsemag If I was another type of Twitter guy I'd write 'I’m always intrigued as to why people are so keen on passing judgement on here about things they haven’t even read in the first place!' But no, thanks for sharing the piece. I've always had a good time with Gerry when we've hung out

@BenWilko85 @neilsonandrew @thedarkhorsemag It just seems wild to imagine a time when a poem's sociopolitical content wasn't considered part of its poetic merit. Was there?! What am I missing. Both of your last two tweets had 'these days' in, but I'm not sure which before-times you're thinking of

@neilsonandrew @BenWilko85 @thedarkhorsemag Fascinatingly phrased! Not sure I made any claim whatsoever about the editorial as a whole, did I, or passed judgement on it? Genuinely interested to hear more about what I seem to mean though

@BenWilko85 @thedarkhorsemag Tbf I haven't read the piece. But this quote clearly implies that being a vessel for social/political issues is the furthest thing from poetry! (That's what saying that poetry is the last thing we look for if social/political concerns are valued means). Which is obviously wrong!
