Hunter Biden, like millions of Americans and their families, struggled with substance abuse disorder. There is no shame in recovery. The shame belongs to Christians who judge the pain and redemption of another. I’m no theologian, but I think that concept is pretty key.
@ryanjreilly
Some doorknob tells Officer Fanone he should be hit by a bus.
Fanone drawls, “You gotta do better than that.”
Doorknob tosses some sweary weak sauce.
Fanone pauses, “And…?”
I love him.
@SteveSchmidtSES
It’s like they slept through the Jesus part of the Bible.
They delight in suffering and believe freedom means a total lack of personal responsibility.
Cruelty is ever the point.
@JoJoFromJerz
1) The American flag should never fly with a traitorous flag.
2) Pet peeve: if you are going to use our flag to signal your super-duper patriotism, you should at least use proper flag etiquette. US flag should be in the first position— all the way to the left of the viewer.
@BaddCompani
Luckily, the Russian press released photos of the meeting, or we would have missed charming scenes like this one of old pals yucking it up in the Oval Office.

Which kids will have to prioritize full-time earning over schoolwork and their chances for college, therefore getting stuck in the service industry for life?
Hmmmm… I wonder…🤔
@chick_in_kiev
Hurting children is barbaric. All they learn is they can’t trust you to control your anger and it’s okay for a big person to hurt a small person.
If you start with violence, other forms of discipline won’t work and those children will be teens one day. Fear is not respect.
For all of the morons trying to justify Donald’s gross rant by screeching,
“Yeah, but really what does NATO do for meeeeeeee?”
Article V was invoked exactly once, to defend US after 9/11.
NATO members sent their sons and daughters to fight beside us, you shameful turds.
Trump’s invitation to Russia to attack NATO allies is repugnant and profoundly dangerous. It should finally disqualify him for the presidency among all who cherish democratic values and our shared freedoms – Republicans, Democrats, and Independents alike.

@SageOfNathan
That was my first question today…
I am gobsmacked that they didn’t put a beacon of any kind on a tiny submersible— THAT THEY LOST BEFORE.
@MuellerSheWrote
For those who missed it:
The filibuster requires 60 votes in the SENATE (not the House) to pass a bill.
We’ve 50 Dem and 50 GOP in the Senate. VP Harris breaks ties.
To overturn the filibuster you need 50 Dem votes + the VP.
Dem Senators Manchin and Sinema won’t do it.

Matt Gaetz wouldn’t last five minutes in the life of the working poor. One bus ride to his minimum wage job and he’d be crying into the deep fryer.
@AshaRangappa_
Where are all the articles and tweets about how energizing Donald’s indictments will be to the majority of Americans, who believe no one is above the law and were deeply disgusted by 1/6? We matter too.
@ruthbenghiat
@AshaRangappa_
Indicting Donald makes America stronger.
This will energize the majority of voters. We can’t let the screaming minority push the narrative that this is good for them.
@cossackgundi
1. We owe Ukraine. We PROMISED to have Ukraine’s back in 1994 in exchange for them defanging themselves.
2. Ukraine is an investment in our shared future.
3. Russia doesn’t want peace. They want to erase Ukraine.
@patriottakes
We need to tell them Jack Smith is a wizard. Explains why Donald won’t make eye contact with him, he’s trying hard to avoid getting hexed.
@BaddCompani
Here’s what
@ZelenskyyUa
said about the “do us a favor” meeting with trump. It wasn’t just about Javelins. Ukraine needed a tough signal to putin that the US backed Ukraine’s efforts to reform and break away from putin’s corrupt puppets.
And Rudy was working with the Kremlin.

It meant everything to hear her describe the way she tried to push it from her mind. It’s very real that survivors sometimes try to take the blame, just to feel any kind of power after such a horrible violation.

IYO- How much did the cracks in trust that Donald made in our intelligence networks, and his documented intelligence breaches contribute to current events?
The majority is with you, Professor!
The backward want us to think they are the majority, but they are not.
The bullhorns are loud, but their numbers are few. They want us to give in to despair at the ugliness of it all.
Reality is non-negotiable.
1. FPOTUS, FBI and USSS KNEW the Capitol was in peril and did nothing to warn or protect. They pretended the armed 1/6 mob was unplanned.
2. The mob ambushed Capitol Police and lawmakers.
3. GOP blamed DC and Pelosi for the ambush and lied that she didn’t call the Nat. Guard.

Strikes me that the real snowflakes were too weak to wear a piece of cloth on their face, get a shot, or miss their Awesome Blossom Tuesdays at the Chili’s. Sad.

They are in line at food banks.
They paid taxes and did everything right and are losing their homes. We are acting like a third-world country.
Putin has been waging war on democracy for his entire adult life. He uses disinformation warfare to weaken and divide our nation because he knows democracy and America itself is an idea, a shared agreement. He’s a bad guy who’s degraded our power at home and abroad.

Stephen Ayers should have apologized privately. The Capitol Police have the right to say their piece outside of the constraints of the public eye and the decorum of a Congressional Hearing.
Employ a combination of boredom, counter messaging, and mockery. We have been trained to ignore a bully. This fight requires different tactics.
-Become bored with idiocy. Debating BS and outrage bait validates it
-Amplify/Repeat facts- stay on message
-Mock and block

@MaryLTrump
A teeny tiny percentage of California voters could have elected a new governor with terrifying consequences. Recalls are bad for democracy (and expensive).
@Angry_Staffer
@AVindman
I think a little scale makes it less confusing:
Ukraine’s population is about 10 million bigger than California’s.
The country is a little smaller than Texas.
Kyiv is about the size of Chicago.
Not an easy war— Russia was depending on brute force and intimidation.
They work the right and the left, so watch for their effect, not their message.
They want you to think the only two options are ‘burn it all down’ or give up (the passive version of burn it down). They are trying to destroy democracy by corroding ideals and sowing chaos.

@justinbaragona
@DrEricDing
I cannot begin to explain what different universes LAX and South Pasadena are. That’s several freeways and many neighborhoods away.
I always saw 1/6 not as a “2nd Civil War,” but as a continuation— Civil War 2.0.
We let the rot of the Confederacy fester by allowing it in our government, our laws and in monuments to traitors. We let the South be the ‘real racists’ so we could hide our own white supremacy.
The “Big Lie” has become central to the story of how Donald Trump incited violence at the US Capitol. But a much darker motivating factor has received little attention.
Their goal is to create doubt, disruption, confusion, despair, and ultimately, message dominance and apathy.
They want you to think it’s hopeless and that 50% (or more) are on their side, people are hideous, all politics are the same and your vote/actions don’t matter.
2/3
So, we reinstate the Assault Rifle Ban— the first question is:
What do we do with the 20 million in circulation?
1. We don’t make more
2. They’re not transferable saleable or inheritable
3. You are 100% personally liable for any crimes or accidents associated with your weapon
@steve_magruder
@atrupar
Nope. One of the many awful discoveries of the pandemic: too many do not understand that 1% of 330 million Americans is a lot.
@LincolnsBible
I’m infuriated by the lack of understanding around processing issues. It has absolutely no bearing on intelligence or ability.
What are we testing for? The ability to analyze and solve complex problems, or fluency of delivery.
They are NOT the same skill.
Kevin McCarthy voted NO on funding clean water for his constituents.
He voted to cut the taxes of robber barons and the mega-rich who, incidentally, don’t live anywhere near Bakersfield and don’t drink tap water anyway.
I guess they must’ve needed more yachts?
The drinking water in Kevin McCarthy's hometown of Bakersfield
#CA23
is contaminated with highly toxic levels of chromium 6 which increases cancer risks by 30X! The
#BuildBackBetterAct
provides 1.1Billion for clean drinking water infrastructure projects.
Kevin McCarthy VOTED NO.

From another thread: use weak words offensively. They mistake fear/anger for respect— they want to be the villain in the story, so don’t let them have that role. Make them the clown, the sucker. Even if they are monstrous, we cannot show fear or try appeal to their conscience.
They like being the bad guys. Don’t use strong words to insult them.
As much as you can, drop words like: evil, dangerous, cruel, mean, angry.
Instead use words like: coward, gullible, weak, lame, small, dupe, clown, whiner, impotent, baby.
They are terrified of mockery.
Stephen Ayers should have apologized privately. The Capitol Police have the right to say their piece outside of the constraints of the public eye and the decorum of a Congressional Hearing.
Stephen Ayers did
@libradunn
, the Capitol Police and their loved ones no favors today.
That was an ambush. An apology should never be about relieving your own guilt. Apologies belong to the person harmed and they have the right to refuse your apology until they are ready.
@Stonekettle
If gun ownership was a legally binding responsibility and owners were held liable for their gun’s involvement in any “accident” or crime, you can bet gun owners would get VERY $&@#% serious about gun safety overnight.
This won’t play out well for the right. We’re not their father’s liberals. They underestimate our determination in the face of a bully. They mistake our kindness for weakness, but we’re the same people who beat this anti-democracy bullshit back before, and we’ll do it again. 10/
Hey white people,
Let’s try something new for MLK Day. Instead of posting quotes and other earnest, nice white people stuff, can we do some self-reflection?
The goal is clarity. It might help to look more deeply at what some common white people reactions can teach us.

“I have not eaten for days. However, I am able to sleep...”
I know that people are saying that the Trump base is energized, but I don’t think they understand the bravery and determination they have awakened in those who love justice and democracy.

And his poll numbers are squishy soft…
If Biden were coming in 20+ points below his polling numbers on Election Day, they would be throwing him a funeral.

Shocker...Deficit hawks are going to suddenly awaken after their 4 year slumber. They will furrow their brows about fiscal responsibility. Yeah, no.
@mikejason73
@MalcolmNance
Cool outfits don’t make you brave. Neither does power or the best gear. Bravery comes from conviction, responsibility and a willingness to sacrifice for the greater good. Conflating “freedom” with the flouting of responsibility has made us weak.
Maybe Tucker should do a special.
This fun juxtaposition of reports underscore a truth I learned on the streets of SF and when I managed clubs— Cosplay cartoon machismo crumbles. The real deal doesn’t front. When I’m in a spot give me the brave and battle-tested: queers, BIPoC, women and comedians (
@ZelenskyyUa
).
