@abalzeau The consumption of plant foods is not incompatible with a highly carnivorous diet. The advantage of isotopic studies is that they can provide a quantitative signal about the average diet of individuals over many years of life.

It is finally out ! d15N on bulk or amino acids already suggested it elsewhere (that Neandertals were carnivores !), but here in Gabasa, the organics were not preserved. Zinc isotopes allowed us to document the diet of one individual

The oldest face in the European fossil record (1.4 Ma?) is reported in Atapuerca. It is said to display some modern features. The fact is that “modern faces” display primitive traits that were lost in more derived forms such as Neandertals
