Expanding the scope of the National Firearms Act which regulates fully automatic weapons would IMO be more feasible that outright bans. It's a super-sized version of the background check with a lot more overwatch incl storage and access factors.

IMO Article 1 Section 8 which grants Congress the authority to regulate the militia should be leveraged for a Federal ban on private militias.

2016 ruined me on the GOP. But it was 2020 Covid that ruined me on ideological dogma I'd subscribed to and chanted for decades, such as the general hostility to government. We saw what kind of a public health system was left (huge budgets slashed in the '80s never restored.

Article 1 Section 8: "To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining the Milita." I think the 2A does speak to individuals keeping arms. But that doesn't make every person a militiamen until mustered up and appropriately armed. The "AR class" should be tightly regulated.
