Goodbye to the idea of du/tri/fourplexes on current single family lots. WA cities won't have to upzone near transit anytime soon. The "missing middle" legislation is dead 💀

Heavy-handed is prohibiting anything other than SF in the vast majority of cities. We’ve been “balancing” housing needs w/local control for decades. To address our housing shortage we must allow the construction of modest & more affordable home choices statewide. #Homes4WA

If a heavy-handed approach to zoning wins the day in Olympia, all the citizen involvement in the Comprehensive Plan process may come to naught.

We don’t have time to waste. The housing crisis is being felt in every corner of our state, impacting families on all ends of the income spectrum. Land use is inextricably linked to our ability to mitigate climate change. 5/7

Thriving cities need ample housing for the people who want to live there. 🏘️Seattle still has time to improve their Comp. Plan. so it reflects the values of their residents and businesses who know we need abundant housing. ✅ #HomesforWA @Sightline @UrbanistOrg

New: 50+ groups called on Harrell to greatly increase density in the comp plan update, arguing if he doesn't plan will exacerbate housing shortage. Lots of big players on the list including the Chamber, affordable housing developers, community groups, realtor orgs, businesses

Exponential increases in home & rent prices have led to Washingtonian’s struggling, spending 1/3 to 1/2 their income on housing costs. Home ownership is only affordable in 7 WA counties, & they are all in Eastern WA. 4/7

Families in WA in large cities & small are spending up to half their income on housing. Washingtonians deserve real solutions to our housing crisis. @senmonadas & I are introducing a bill to lift bans on low-impact housing.

Just now: Washington governor Jay Inslee says he supports state legislation to overturn local bans on missing middle housing. Proposal would allow up to four units per lot in cities above a certain size.

The concern around affordability when it comes to missing middle housing is “odd.” The Association of Washington Housing Authorities supports HB 1110. #WALeg members talking “affordability” should follow the advice of the orgs that provide income-eligible housing! #homes4WA
