Earlier today, in a debate on green energy, I made my maiden speech.
👇
I began by paying tribute to my predecessors, Peter Aldous and Bob Blizzard, and my mentor Tessa Jowell.
Let no one say our last Labour Government didn’t make a difference. The Minimum Wage, Sure Start, halving child poverty, getting rid of Section 28 and introducing Civil Partnerships, new schools and hospitals, the lowest number of strike days, redistribution and so much more
Honoured to be selected as Labour’s candidate for Waveney.
A huge thank you to everyone who’s supported and helped on my campaign.
I will continue to fight to turn Waveney red again, and for the Labour government this country desperately needs. The hard work begins today 🌹
On Thursday 4 July, you have a choice between 5 more years of chaos with the Tories or change with Labour. But change will only happen if you vote for it. 🌹
Thank you Feargal for your endorsement! If I’m elected your MP I will always champion our beautiful river and coast, and fight to keep it clean.

Really upset to hear that Suffolk Rape Crisis is closing due to unsustainable funding. That means there will be no service run by women for women in Suffolk. 1 in 4 women experience sexual violence - wouldn’t you think services like this would be mandatory with proper funding?
It was a huge honour to be formally sworn in as the MP for Lowestoft pleading my allegiance to the Crown. I’m so grateful to everyone who has put their faith in me to represent them in Parliament.
I’m delighted to have finished my first week in Westminster and am on my way home to Lowestoft 😍 It’s still all sinking in but I’m incredibly proud to be your new MP.
I am incredibly honoured to have been elected as Chair for the APPG on Perpetrators of Domestic Abuse.
It was also great to hear from our new Safeguarding Minister
@jessphillips
about the Govt's plans to halve VAWG.
A focus on perpetrators is key to it.
@RespectUK
@safelives_
It’s just 2 days to go until Polling day. It’s neck and neck between Labour and the Tories in Lowestoft, Beccles and the Villages. If you want change you have to vote for it on Thursday!

I am incredibly pleased that
@RachelReevesMP
, our Shadow Chancellor, came to Lowestoft today. Labour will put economic growth at the heart of our mission for government bringing good jobs to Lowestoft and Beccles. Vote for change, vote Labour on Thursday 4 July. 🌹
Thinking of my wonderful former boss Tessa Jowell and colleague Duncan Chapman this morning and their families. Such gracious and generous souls, both such dedicated public servants who knew the power of politics and the responsibility of public office.
Violence against women and girls remains one of the most pressing injustices in this country.
That’s why today I wrote to
@jessphillips
and
@AlexDaviesJones
to ask for a meeting to discuss how we can work to tackle it.
Residents have been telling me for weeks that they just want the General Election. Well now we have the date. We will fight for every vote until 10pm on July 4th.

Today I asked my first question in the House of Commons asking for a debate on the crisis in NHS dentistry. This issue was raised more than any other during the election and I’m pleased the Govt is already getting to work. Watch here 👇
Not a day goes by when I don’t think about wonderful Tessa and what a pleasure it is to come in to Parliament with two other amazing MPs who worked for her
@LiamConlon2

It was brilliant to welcome Labour Party Chair
@AnnelieseDodds
to Lowestoft today. As she told us - change only happens if you vote for it. Stop the chaos, turn the page, and let’s rebuild Lowestoft, Beccles and the Country! 🌹
Absolutely brilliant to see Jess Phillips in this crucial role! Look forward to working with her and the whole community of violence against women campaigners and survivors!
Incredibly honoured to be joined by Charles Clarke, former Labour Home Secretary, who officially opened our Campaign Office in central Lowestoft today! Here’s what he had to say! 🌹
The Government has failed the tenants forced to live for two years behind shrink wrap in St Francis Tower in Ipswich. Listen to BBC

🚨Delighted to have made the shortlist for Waveney!
I’m so grateful for all the support our campaign has received from across the Labour movement and I'm excited to get out and talk to as many members as I can about their priorities.🌹

It was rather rainy out on the

today in Lowestoft but great to speak with residents as we make the case for voting Labour in May’s elections! Top issues today were:
🦷 Lack of access to NHS dentistry
🏥 Lack of face to face appts with GPs
💦 Sewage in rivers & sea
Thank you Natalie for speaking out. Your bravery and determination to change this for so many women is extraordinary.
Rape Crisis is there in case anyone is reading this and looking for support:

Parliament has now broken up for the summer.
Although changing our country and improving lives takes time, I’ve hit the ground running and I wanted to share with you what I’ve been up to in my first few (hectic!) weeks in the job.

Gorgeous morning to be out in Beccles today! Main issues:
🏥 NHS waiting times - one resident has been forced to go private because he can’t get an op in time
💷 Concerns about high mortgage rates and the price of food & energy
🌹 Lots of former Tories switching to Labour!
Lovely evening meeting locals at the fantastic
@Oakfiredbeccle1
The Royal Oak in Beccles and enjoying the best Neapolitan pizzas outside of Naples! Thank you to everyone who came and to Paul and Paul for hosting. 🍕❤️
I spoke to the Chair of the Labour Party
@AnnelieseDodds
why we need a Labour MP for Lowestoft, Beccles and the villages. Change will only come if you vote for it on July 4th! 🌹
Wow! What an incredible celebration of our beautiful river Waveney on a perfect day with the brilliant campaigner
@Feargal_Sharkey
Thanks to Hipperson’s boatyard, Big Dog Ferry, the wild swimmers & everyone who came to support! Let’s make our rivers and seas💩 free!
Thank you
@wesstreeting

I have a track record of campaigning and achieving real change. And I’ll fight to make a real difference to the lives of people living in Lowestoft, Beccles and the Villages. But change only comes if you vote for it. Vote for me Jess Asato and Labour tomorrow July 4th🌹

summer fete. As well as lots of fabulous conversations, including about how we protect Pakefield cliffs from further erosion, I had to have a proper ice cream 🍦 Thanks to everyone for their well wishes!
So many people I speak to across the constituency are struggling to find a dentist. I've set up a survey to understand the scale of the problem locally. Please do share your views here:
Day 4 of the campaign! Rain turned to gorgeous sunshine and given the number of posters we gave out, local residents are also feeling change is coming to Lowestoft in Carlton & Whitton! 🌹
Day 20!! And huge thanks
@LabourStudents
for joining us today campaigning for change in Lowestoft, Beccles and the villages! (Sorry about the rain!) Labour will change young people’s futures for the better🌹
Absolutely chuffed to have been elected to
@CommonsEd
today and looking forward to working with
@helenhayes_
as Chair and all colleagues to make sure children and young people are able to lead flourishing lives no matter where they start in life.
A special treat to have
@Tony_Robinson
with us today to lend his lovely voice to our campaign to improve the lives of people in Lowestoft, Beccles and the Villages. As Tony said: ‘change only happens if you vote for it, so get to your polling station and vote Jess tomorrow!’
Having been in a leasehold situation where there was no transparency, paying for annual fire checks which had clearly not been done, repair works which were over the odds, and a total lack of communication or accountability I 100% support this call for change.

Hey
@michaelgove

Mr Gove, can you please clarify whether Leo will get CONTROL of his fees and management, as was promised originally by the developer? 👇 (1/3)
We had a fantastic meal overlooking Oulton Broad at Shish Anatolia this evening! Thank you so much to the fantastic staff and to everyone who came from Lowestoft Labour to celebrate our amazing win! 🌹
I took
@leicesterliz
Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary to visit the inspirational Pathways Care Farm in Lowestoft. They help vulnerable people to rebuild, grow and get back into work by getting involved in hands on activities at this incredible farm. And we met Alpacas!
Tonight, Waveney members choose their Labour candidate for the next election.
I’ve been overwhelmed by the support we've received and I'm so grateful to everyone who has helped on my campaign.
Together, we can turn Waveney red again - whatever the result tonight🌹
Thank you
@leicesterliz
for joining us today! Together Labour can change the country and save the NHS, bring back dentists to Lowestoft and Beccles and revive our town centres! 🌹
The situation facing specialist charities that deal with violence against women and girls is acute - with services like Suffolk Rape Crisis being forced to close.
On Monday, I asked the Home Secretary what the Government's plans are to tackle this issue.
It was great to be out campaigning for
@DannyBeales
to be our next MP for Uxbridge & South Ruislip. So much support for him. Lots of voters saying how they can’t wait to have someone who is locally dedicated.
#VoteLabour
I’m so excited to welcome
@Feargal_Sharkey
to Beccles! Please do join us to meet him and hear about how we can celebrate our beautiful River Waveney and stop pollution once and for all! 🌹
Very proud to be elected with such a brilliant group of Labour women! Thanks to everyone, particualry
@LabourWomensNet
who gave us so much support to get here.
People across Lowestoft, Beccles and the villages are voting for change. Join them on Thursday 4 July and vote for Jess Asato. Change will only come if you vote for it.
100 days, 55 local organisation visits, 14 community events, 1,883 cases, 687 resolved cases, 8 surgeries, 59 national organisation meetings, 8 speeches, 38 written questions, and 3 oral questions later …
And I’m just getting started!
So delighted to see Labour committing to a new child poverty strategy and can’t wait to support the work to ensure it truly delivers for our poorest children and families, across all Government Departments 👏
This morning I convened experts and campaigners on child poverty to start work immediately on a new, ambitious child poverty strategy.
We will work every day across government to reduce child poverty and give every child the best start in life.
Thanks to Lowestoft Labour’s team for speaking to residents in Waveney Crescent today! We are fighting to persuade every resident to support
@UKLabour
whenever the General Election is called! 🌹 🗳️
Getting on with the job! Today I held my first surgery and discussed everything from NHS dentistry access to speeding on Crestview Drive. Afterwards I was blown away by Re-utilise and Lowestoft Timebank - two incredible orgs working to support our community!
The cost-of-living crisis has hit people hard in Waveney.
We need a local champion who will fight for change in Parliament.
That’s why I’m standing to be Labour’s candidate for Waveney at the next election.
Together, we can turn Waveney red again 🌹
Rachel Reeves visited Lowestoft twice this year highlighting the commitment a Labour government will have to secure good local jobs & to deliver Labour’s Green Prosperity Plan which will really benefit areas like ours. Vote for change, vote Labour, vote Jess Asato tomorrow 4 July
I welcomed
@wesstreeting

Enjoyed taking my kids to Burston today & telling them the history of the time the children went on strike to defend their teachers against unfair dismissal after they spoke out against the “wretchedly ventilated” conditions of their school. Over 100 yrs since, & we still fight!
Amazing to have the endorsement of
@DaleVince
, Green Energy Pioneer and Founder of
@ecotricity
. And he’s absolutely right about Lowestoft’s clean and green future 👏
Places like Lowestoft are where the jobs of our clean, green future will be forged. I know Jess is already looking at the huge opportunities for local businesses and people that will come when a Labour government unleashes a wave of investment in clean energy. It’s time for
So, it turns out that the Tories decided to “wreck” Labour’s amendment to stop sewage dumping instead of being held accountable for voting against it, including Peter Aldous, Waveney’s Conservative MP.
What a disgrace.
Labour has a motion in Parliament today that would allow
@UKLabour
to take control of proceedings & enshrine in law a requirement to end the Tory
#SewageScandal
at no cost to households.
If Tory MPs fail to support this, they will be voting again to continue dumping sewage 💩
On Friday, in my maiden speech, I highlighted the issue of people in Lowestoft and Beccles who are struggling to access NHS dentistry.
Today, I’ve written to the Health Secretary to ask for a meeting to discuss how we can urgently improve the situation.
One day in the future we will look back and wonder how we allowed our children to be subjected to such addictive and in some cases harmful content. I’m delighted to lend my support to
@JoshMacAlister
’s Safer Phones Bill.
Today I’m launching my Private Members’ Bill - the Safer Phones Bill - to protect children from the harms that can be caused by excessive screen time, and the use of social media and other apps, many of them addictive by design.
👉
Utterly glorious day to be chatting to residents in Grayson Drive and local streets! Lots of people wanting posters and welcoming a General Election as soon as possible. “Let’s get this done - I’m sick of the waiting” said one lady! 🌹
I was incredibly honoured to see the new
@gullwingbridge

Good to be in Lowestoft today with the fab
