The Tennessee teams of last year and this year are the only college teams I have watched since his death where I thought I wish my dad could have watched these guys play.
John Calipari and his Kentucky staff do a brilliant job of developing players. Most importantly they lay a foundation of toughness, teamwork and professionalism. But don't ignore the fact that he identifies future pros in recruiting as well as anybody.
Ernie DiGregorio — with arguably the most difficult, under duress, on the money, in stride, behind the back dime in the history of the game. Holy sh*t.🏀🤷♂️💪👁🔥
I will just say that Bill Self did the best job in trials that I have seen in 15 years in this business. Covered nuances of euro officiating. Hadn't seen that before.
Hubie Brown preaching the gospel of the behind-the-back pass at Five Star in the ‘70’s is the height of swag. Demos by slinging 8 crispy ones of his own. Ultimate flex.
“Don’t tell me that’s showboating!”
Santiago Vescovi truly won over my heart as one of my favorite Vols ever. Such a love him if he is on your team type player. I will take him in my foxhole. Played intelligent, angry and crafty.
For the third consecutive year,
@Vol_Hoops
' Santiago Vescovi had at least 220 PTS, 125 REB, 85 AST, 40 3PM & 35 STL.
No other SEC player in the last 30 seasons has posted that line more than twice.
Perhaps greatest quote from my dad. Definitely huge impression on me. As kid, I said "they should have won." My dad immediately retorted, "The team that should have won is the team that did win." Cut down a lot on any of my potential post game whining.
Liking this Tennessee team. Win on road for the championship with sub par performance on both ends by Dalton Knecht. Four players came up big for the Vols. Rick Barnes has established an ethos.
14 years ago Coach Don Meyer won the Jimmy V Perseverance ESPY. Coach passed away 9 years ago today. Was a Legend. Some of the best basketball coaches in the world considered him a Guru.
First thing I remember Coach Don Meyer saying to family when he got back home from winning 1986 NAIA championship was "I saw the freakiest basketball player I have ever seen." Dennis Rodman had 24 points and 35 rebounds (I think) in semifinals in Kansas City.
Remember when Coach Don Meyer in tears admitted to our family that
president of Lipscomb in mid 80s told him he couldn't have more blacks than whites on court or on team. Won a national championship in 86 w 3 blacks on court. Never respected my dad more. 2 from Huntsville.
I'm gonna tell you a lot of things. Who shoots 23 free throws? Who shoots 23 on the road? Who makes all 23? Guess Grant Williams does. I am flabbergasted.
I will say this on JD Davison. He is in the category of Derrick Rose, Ja Morant, Russell Westbrook, John Wall, etc. in terms of athleticism. His passing reminds of Morant. Davison is an elite talent.
Memphis continues to pick up Crystal Ball predictions for McDonald's All American Trendon Watford. There is the potential for the Tigers to have the No. 1 recruiting class in 2019. (VIP)
If Duke lands Matthew Hurt and Cassius Stanley, as expected by the Crystal Ball, the Blue Devils will have the No. 1 class in the 247Sports Composite Team Rankings.
I'm sorry but have to say that the thought that coaches shouldn't have to coach effort is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Effort is the number one thing you coach every day.
Playing hard is a learned behavior. It is taught and socialized. Some players have bigger hearts and have more of an innate instinct for competing. DNA is real. But any player can always play harder.
Oklahoma State basketball walk-on Dee Mitchell had been paying his way through school by working at Walmart.
His coach surprised him with a scholarship while he was at work ❤️

Perhaps number one thing I learned from my dad is compete to the last second. Most people lose heart before the end and wilt when there is still a chance.
