To live the life that I would love,
To postpone my dream no longer
But do at last what I came here for
And waste my heart on fear no more." -Morning Offering by John O’Donohue
I'm tired of the hate. I want to put my privileged, white, straight, cis-gendered male body in front of anyone who would be attacked for who they are. I stand with my Asian sisters and brothers (and sons and daughters).
Amidst the hubbub and joy, the challenges and sleepless nights of interviews and reactions to my new book, I found solace (and a bit of my soul) pulling weeds for the last hour. Is there anything as wondrous as the smell of damp earth and feel of dirt under your fingernails?
@jerrycolonna
Your book is a gift. I can't wait for more people in my life to read it as we strive to occupy "the fullness - the glory and mess - of our lives."
It seems that mass shootings will continue until we do at least three things: end hatred that leads to othering, increase resources for the mentally ill, and break our dystopian obsession with guns. Systemic problems require systemic solutions.
I'm writing right now to a third friend, a third good man, whose father--weakened by other ailments--died from Covid-19. All three fathers passed in the last week. I just need to say that Covid-19 sucks. Please wear masks.😷
Last night I went to a (virtual) memorial service for a friend who died by suicide at Thanksgiving. She was pain for years. Feeling it this morning. RIP indeed. Impermanence sucks.
1/5 I landed in NYC last night feeling blue. Overwhelmed and tired ahead of ten days if travel. Woke to a rainy Sunday morning. Went to

and felt immediate relief. I was back in the NYC of my childhood.

I voted for heroes who support the Constitution because the Constitution, and our collective beliefs in democracy and the republic, is more important than any individual. E pluribus unum.
Talking with a friend about their call with a carrier and they said, in frustration, "It's traumatizing to deal with customer service." Writing as someone with diagnosed PTSD, please remember that "traumatizing" is NOT a synonym for "frustrating." Thanks.
I read a lot of books. And I think this one... "Reboot" by Jerry Colonna... might end up being one of the most impactful for me out of the hundreds I've read in the last two decades.

My father was a union member. When he was laid off because his company had failed to adapt to changing technology the union made sure we had food. I will never forget that. Thank you to those who continue to support the labor movement Enjoy Labor Day. 💪

And, one more thing about that question…it shouldn’t be used to castigate oneself. It should be approached with kind but radically true self-reflection. Don’t weaponize inner work.

This morning, I learned that Reunion is a national bestseller.
To be honest, I’m still processing the news. This is such a profound moment for the little kid in me who yearned to have his stories heard.
Above all, I want to emphasize the deep gratitude I feel for the beautiful

This paramedic in the UK received a coordinated standing-ovation, round of applause, and heartfelt “thank you” from her neighbors as she leaves her house for another grueling nightmare shift at the hospital.
It brings her to tears.

I'm grateful for the work you three are doing. Not only are you excellent journalists but you're doing what you can to safeguard democracy. Thank you.

I've always said that a ceo's job is to build the machine that makes the products. If you're building the product, you're not building the machine.

Pema Chödrön has been one of my teachers for twenty years. It’s traditional to keep a teacher's photo on your altar. 💛
I first met Pema at a benefit for a local Buddhist center. It was the beginning of a weekend teaching retreat

Over the weekend, as the attacks on Israel by Hamas in Gaza became clearer, I counseled myself to be quiet, to listen to those who know better than I about the situation. I chose not to give in to the impulse to draw conclusions and fast responses.🧵

My new book, Reunion: Leadership and the Longing to Belong, is out today. I’ll be honest, its timing with the current state of the world feels bittersweet.
In this video, I share my thoughts about the bitterness of the present moment and the sweet hope that doing the work of
