Again looking through the old photos I took, I came across one of The Canary restaurant in 2003, which was in the building still standing on the SE corner of Cherry & Front Sts. I've loved the interesting building & its roughed-up neon sign since first seeing it in the late 1980s

Toronto's famous Palace Pier was destroyed by fire on this day in 1963 (Jan 7) The aging event space was at risk of demolition from its earliest days. Construction began in 1927 but the venue didn't open until 1941, nine years after it was completed.

#onthisday in 1930, (Aug. 11) the largest aircraft to have visited Toronto, (as big as Union Station) twice circled Toronto. 'His Majesty's Airship' R-100 had made its way across the Atlantic Ocean to Canada on a promotional trip, & the population of Toronto was mesmerized. 1/5

People boarding a "one-man" (single operator) streetcar at St. Clair & Yonge, Toronto, Oct. 15, 1926. 97 years ago today! I love the details on this one, including a huge Tamblyn Drugs billboard and a porcelain enamel sign for the Daily Star on the newsstand to the right.
