Due to decades without federal funding for pediatric firearm injury prevention research, "we’ve lost a whole generation of researchers. We need to start from scratch and entirely rebuild the research workforce." I'm quoted by @CNN @LuriePEM @ManneResearch

Children say it best… We healthcare providers also have opportunities to share similar messages of kindness, hope, and welcome with our newly immigrated patients. ❤️

4 years ago today, I visited my kids' middle school to talk about immigration and the Trump Admin's "Migrant Protection Protocols" which kept families in crowded tent encampments on the Mexican border. Kids here made cards for kids I'd be visiting there. /1

@HandtevyMD Why gentamicin for peds? Standard peds sepsis coverage is ceftriaxone. Add vancomycin if critically ill. Also, ceftriaxone isn’t recommended under 1 mo due to jaundice risk. Ceftriaxone dosing should have a max listed (some kids are adult size). Epi dosing should be weight based.

@988Lifeline @TrevorProject 1 in 8 gender diverse youth who screened positive for suicide risk came to the emergency department for a non-mental health reason. This highlights the importance of universal suicide risk screening regardless of the reason for visit.
