@RepThomasMassie Mainly we have rights that prohibit other people from doing unwanted things to us. Rights are not things which compel other people to do wanted things to us.

@wordgrammer This almost certainly will happen. But the crucial and subtle fact about cost is that it is not zero-sum

@bayeslord This is only true because chess engines are undoubtedly better than any living human in chess today. While I personally believe it will, it is not guaranteed that an AGI better than humans at programming computers will ever exist, or exist anytime soon.

@durreadan01 Man, when you criticize so many companies so harshly — even if you’re correct — you become a target for criticism yourself, and lose people’s sympathy

@kaseyklimes There is a time to spend capital and a time to save it. As a country, we’re in a very different situation now than we were in 1969.

On the contrary. Certain video games are among the most beneficial training we could possibly provide for children. Try to teach kids about compounding gains, business savvy, hard work, dedication, and their effects on progression, better than Runescape or many other RPGs would. What gives children a richer environment to formulate, and execute on, creative long-term plans than Minecraft does? Other than a History degree, where can you get an intuitive feel and understanding of history than what you'll get after hundreds of hours in EU4, HOI4, Crusader Kings, or Vicky? Where else could kids so effectively develop such a strategic and political mindset? We create virtual training simulations in numerous careers because we recognize they are the most effective way to learn. Many video games present children with similar learning opportunities for deeply complex and beneficial motifs innate to the human experience. Is it a coincidence that @elonmusk, one of the most effectual people in our history, is a massive proponent of video games? Even within the medium itself: video games are often gateways into programming for many, and can create a love and understanding of computers from a young age. Yes, one should absolutely not live within video games, and video game addiction can be deeply hurtful, but many greatly beneficial things become harmful when not practiced in moderation.
