@heymrsbond Muslims don't celebrate Xmas (some myt). Growing up in the 80s in K-12 public schools in SF, there wasn't an option for us to opt out of making greeting cards, painting Santa's. I wish I had a choice back then. That lack of diversity still exists & it's why I'm in this field.

@prntgdcolonized I come from a community that centers children as the purpose behind building. We do right now 4 them, we work 4 them, we teach them, we love on them, we respect them. Not to sound cliche, but they are legit the future! It's terrifying to hear how some folks have a disdain for em.

@joyshel5 Not sure if you teach college classes? But I love the humanity in this. My daughter is a senior in college and has many days where she just needs a break to catch up from all the on screen learning. Kudos to you for seeing your student & giving her space to come back in & excel.

Did my taxes online, the tax preparer entered the room, took one look at me & said: "oh wait let me transfer you to the other rep, I don't do foreign taxes." I hadn't said a word until then. I was born & raised in SF 🙄 & hijab ≠ non English speaker. Plz don't make assumptions!

I started wearing the #hijab in college. It was a really hard decision because even before 9-11, #islamophobia & anti-Arab sentiment was prevalent. My hijab is is a symbol of my Muslim identify. I can now wear it with pride, despite the hate. Happy #WorldHijabDay 💜
