*I should say, in many of us. I'm sure some of us don't have apathy towards gender. I certainly had very strong alignment instead of apathy.

Seems like an unusual amount of aerial surveillance over Denver during dinnertime this week (~5-8PM) with ADS-B turned off šŸ¤” 28th: looked like a PC-12 but not 100% sure. 29th: didn't see. 31st: black helicopter. EC145? maybe from KFNL, landed at KAPA.

@bio_pnk I can't tell if her last sentence there is a rhetorical flourish or a statement that surgical transition is where she draws the line on who has legitimately transitioned.

Team chat this AM: "if you watched SeaQuest DSV your knees probably ache today" which surfaced a memory* that led me to the Wikipedia page for the SeaQuest game on SNES&Genesis. The first paragraph and infobox disagreed on when it was released on each platform šŸ§ ChatGPT found the mismatch immediately. Might be interesting to use LLMs to screen every page & flag typos or fact mismatches for human review. * me, 8, spent hours watching neighbor play it on Sega.

I was home schooled K-"12" using curriculum from Abeka, Bob Jones, and IBLP. Mom had a Master's in education and Dad had a Batcheler's in CompSci. I learned to read and do arithmetic a couple years early. My ACT composite score was well above average. Sounds like a home school success story, right? Not quite. I'm the oldest of their 8 children. Their theory was that the older kids would teach the younger. Problem was, half their kids had one or more learning disabilities. Mom recognized this, but my parents were reluctant to seek help -- their home school legal aid group put out a monthly newsletter with tales of how parents had sought help for things like this only to have social workers show up with cops to take their kids away. My education stopped after 7th grade when I became primary childcare provider for my younger siblings after mom ended up in the hospital for months due to pregnancy complications. My science education prior to that included such gems as how the structure of the human eye proved that evolution was false because only g-d could design something so perfect. Now, I liked reading and had gone through our (paper) encyclopedia, a lot of textbooks, and the parts of the pre-Wikipedia internet. But, I'd never written an essay or progressed to learning algebra. Somehow I picked up a little computer programming along the way (C++, perl, python) My dad didn't want me to go to college and thanks to FAFSA requiring parental tax information he could prevent it. He only relented after I started talking to an Army recruiter and he decided a church-affiliated college was less likely to "corrupt" me than the Army. I got to college and promptly lost my academic scholarship after barely passing applied calc and English composition. I managed to get every grade possible and was nominated for academic student of the month while being on academic probation before dropping out to work at a local small tech company thanks to my advisor's connections. 20 years later, I'm cracked (very highly skilled) in some areas and cracked (like a broken mug) in many others. Of my siblings, two managed to get an Associate's. Two ended up escaping via the Army. All of us are 5-10 years behind our age cohort in typical post-HS existence experiences. On paper my parents were quite qualified to homeschool, but when life happened there wasn't enough resiliency in their approach to education. Maybe it would have worked with fewer children, without learning disabilities, or if we weren't encumbered by fear of the secular authorities. The funny part is that after we'd all "graduated" my mom went back to teaching in the local public school.

I was home schooled in Christian based homeschool for elementary and middle and was several years ahead. I later attended public high school and found out that ā€œseveral years aheadā€ in homeschool actually meant ā€œunable to catch upā€ to public high schoolers in math and science.
