@MaggieMossop @johncosgrove405 My other son has Williams syndrome. Very rare. Unknown to most professionals. Chromosome deletion. Unless you can spot facial characteristics, not obvious. Only definitely identifiable via advent of chromosome testing. But it’s been around since time began.

@MaggieMossop @johncosgrove405 We can see clues and hints in family stories. I may be making assumptions, but early 20thC suicide attributed to menopause in family lore could easily be someone who today might be autistic and in burnout, late diagnosed and better supported. Though still often not the case.

@MaggieMossop @johncosgrove405 I have two autistic sons, one also dyslexic. I was a stay at home mum until the youngest started school. My husband and I both work from home, no breakfast or after school clubs. I’m also late diagnosed, my mum was also at home with us. It’s in the genes.

@kateowbridge With little regard for current research. Just as teachers are required to do annual safeguarding training, I think updates on send should also be mandatory. My experience as a parent & professional is that masking is not understood.

2/2 It’s interesting that the English word has a sense that is so different to the Germanic and Italic words. #dyslexiaspecialist #etymology #historicallinguistics
