@mattyglesias Electric cars are just better. I pay less in “fuel”, can fill it up in my own home, and have vastly more power than anything I’ve ever driven. The only time it’s even slightly worse is doing a long road trip, and that’s never been a big deal.

@rohindhar I went to an open house for this place a while back. Fascinating building. It’s really nicely done, but I can see how it’s quirky enough to be super hard to sell.

@ramit Lots of replies to this saying banks will tell you how much house you can afford, but they’ll approve you for a whole lot! I was approved to buy my house while still carrying the mortgage for my previous house, but it was definitely not sustainable without sacrificing elsewhere.

@JeffGreason @SaysSimonson I never really noticed this until I moved to California. Afterwards, when I visited family back in Tennessee, I realized how crazy it was that everything smelled like cigarettes and people just thought it was normal. I’m glad restaurant smoking bans spread.

I’m solidly left leaning, but public health agencies absolutely torched their reputations during COVID and I don’t see how they can recover.

@BrodieBz I happened to be passing through Vegas last night and today and was shocked at how disruptive the event is. It basically walls off the Strip, and even though crowds seem super light, taxis and such are using it as an excuse to raise prices.

@AskTarget This kind of nonsense has absolutely driven me away from shopping at Target. Given your most recent quarterly results, it appears I am not alone. Maybe if you didn’t try to steal from your customers by falsely advertising prices that don’t apparently exist, you would do better.

@JewishWonk I live in San Francisco and have heard basically the same thing from many of my friends. Many conversations were a variation of “I don’t want Trump to win, but I can’t vote for Harris”. I had to tell them that I didnt agree, but that I understand.

@emzanotti I re-learned how magical it is to view the world with a kid’s eye. There are loads of little things that I notice more now because I think “she would love this!”, like an interesting bug, a colorful leaf, or a funny phrase. I feel less jaded.
