Micheal McDowell at the RDS earlier. Says the tallies so far show the government is “out of touch with public opinion”.
Says €20mn was wasted on these referendums.

The Palestinian flag has been raised at Leinster House this morning following Ireland’s announcement last week that it was formally recognising the State of Palestine.

Mary Lou McDonald speaking to media after announcing motion of no confidence in Min for Justice Helen McEntee.
She says govt TDs who vote confidence will have questions to answer in their constituencies. Says people do not feel safe, not just in Dublin but across the country.
Right! A bit of personal news..
I’ll be finishing up with
@FTAdviser
in a couple of weeks time. Very excited to be moving home to Ireland next week and starting with

Simon Harris has accused SF of allocating less money for children's healthcare in its alternative budget than FG did.
He also accused the party of removing the alternative health budget from its website, saying it "disappeared like Shergar" as he held up a copy in the Dáil.
Huge number of No’s in both referendums in Dublin North West and Dublin Central from the boxes I’ve been watching so far.
Family looking to be closer than Care.

Spoke to two mortgage brokers yesterday who said all of their recent buy-to-let clients have seen their monthly mortgage payments at least double.
Thousands more coming to an end of their fixed-rate terms this year, not good news for UK renters.
Labour’s MEP candidate Aodháin Ó Ríordáin feeing confident ahead of the European Parliament count starting tomorrow.
Overall it seems to be a lot of smiles from team Labour so far, with the party looking set to hold its own in the local elections.

People Before Profit’s Richard Boyd Barrett has called for an emergency Dáil debate this week to discuss the situation in Gaza.
Says sanctions need to be imposed on Israel.
Extremely critical of US support for Israel too. Says situation is ‘twisted beyond belief’.
Really large crowd outside Leinster House right now where protesters have gathered to demand the Irish government publicly supports South Africa’s genocide case against Israel in the Hague.
When asked what he thinks his legacy will be the Taoiseach said he doesn’t know & he feels sorry for the people who have to write “that rubbish”.
He said however that things like full employment & a budget surplus might be more valued in hindsight.
@thejournal_ie
Tom Clonan told
@thejournal_ie
he is relieved by today's results.
He said the proposed wording would have brought Ireland into international disrepute because it was "completely contrary" to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
Taoiseach asked earlier about EU support for Israel - he said Ireland had been clear on its position.
‘It has to be able to defend itself but in a way that is proportionate’
He added that cutting off civilian infrastructure in response to Hamas attack is the wrong approach.
🚨Some news from the FTAdviser desk...we have a new joiner!

And after a long day, the ‘ring of steel’ around Leinster House is being dismantled.
I’m told by multiple gardaí that they have seen zero protesters all day.
Some opposition TDs gathered outside Leinster House this morning to show their solidarity with the people of Gaza.
‘Countless children have died in this conflict. At what point do we just scream stop? If you have a voice we are asking you to use it,” SocDem’s Gary Gannon said.
Asked whether the EU should consider economic sanctions on Israel, the Tánaiste said it would be ‘extremely challenging’ to get agreement at EU level.
He said the best mechanism for getting Israel to stop the bombardment of Gaza is to maintain diplomatic channels and pressure.
Ivana Bacik weighs in on the Green's Francis Noel Duffy's comment on the eviction ban at Labour's think-in today saying:

"This Referendum campaign has, understandably and foreseeably, damaged trust between groups who campaigned together"

seems to be gaining traction. I wonder if a week out from the vote there are members of some political parties now questioning their campaign positions
The contrast between the history we were taught in school re the "republic" that was being built & the lived experience of Irish women in the 20th century is actually insane
#nocountryforwomen
We need women’s history in our schoolbooks. The truth of it. Social history is as important in understanding Ireland as political history.

Sinn Féin's Pearse Doherty opens Leaders' Guestions by asking Housing Minister Darragh O'Brien if he will support SF's motion this week to stop vulture funds buying up hoards of family homes.
As difficult & exhausting as I imagine it was for every woman to share her personal story, there's something resoundingly positive about the way this was secured. The fact we know now that the majority of Irish people support a woman's choice is really special💚

‘It has been the most fulfilling time of my life’.
Taoiseach emotional as he makes the announcement flanked by his senior Ministers. He says he is resigning for reasons both ‘personal and political’.
On the memo Norma Foley is bringing to Cabinet today on smartphone use among primary school children, Labour’s Aodhán Ó Ríordáin says it is a ‘classic Fianna Fáil distraction’.
He says the minister should be instead focusing on the serious staffing issue in the sector.
If you're a financial adviser/planner, broker or paraplanner I would love to hear what you would tell a young person about it as a career choice.
Also eager to hear your tips for success in your field & what you think is the best entry route.

So sad to hear this. I was lucky enough to take one of Dr Conway's modules while at DCU.She was an incredible champion of women & the marginalised, with great insight into the Irish legal system - lessons that have stuck with me since.Thinking of her family, friends & colleagues.
Penneys is a mass producer of low quality clothes, largely made from fossil fuels. Yes it's a big employer and successful Irish business, but the Taoiseach attending the opening of a new store seems wrong and tone deaf to me
