In 1940, aged 26, Gong Peng was sent to Chongqing, where she became the face of the CCP to the many American journalists, diplomats, soldiers, and intelligence officers who came through China's wartime capital. 3/5

Excited to share my chapter from this great new edited volume on US-China history. My chapter is about Gong Peng (龔澎) — who as a young woman in WWII-era Chongqing helped pioneer the CCP’s strategy to win over the American public. 1/5
