🚨 Career Update 🚨
This week, I will officially be launching Nashed Advising & Development!
I am fired up to work directly with players and families to educate, navigate and dominate the college baseball recruiting process.
If you’re a high school player, JC bandit, or 4-year
The Division 1 baseball recruiting period ended yesterday. There will not be D1 coaches at any of your games, showcases, practices, etc. until March 1st of next year. The only exception is if you attend a camp at an individual school.
Now is the time to get after it on the
Perspective is everything.
In 2014 I was an uncommitted senior with minimal D1 interest. Dave Nakama (head coach at San Jose State at the time) came out to watch me play. I went 0-fer and played a sloppy 3B. My worst game of the season, and I knew that any opportunity at
As word seems to be getting out, I figure it’s a good time to give an update.
Last Thanksgiving Paris noticed a lump on my neck. I ended up getting it checked out and the tests and imaging came back suspicious. In February, I had half of my Thyroid and a 2.5cm cancerous
I’m going to be a girl dad!
Paris and I are extremely excited to be bringing a daughter into the world! I am blessed to be married to my best friend and the best future mom there is.
Juliet Nashed, see you in August 2022! We can’t wait to meet you.
Here’s the deal.
I have no skin in the game on this topic, and no reason to be biased in any direction. I’m just going to call it exactly how I have seen it based on my last 10 years in & around Division 1 baseball.
If you can get outs at a high level, you will pitch in
Here’s a story for you…
1,766 days (5 years) since his last pitch thrown in a college baseball game…. Riley Lamb goes 2.2 innings with 3 K’s yesterday and got the “W” for the Gaels.
Welcome back, Riley.

ranked team in the country, gets a routine fly ball for the last out to secure an upset win, and instead of pounding his chest he is looking to fill a gap on the field by rotating up to backup second base.
This is what greatness looks
Saint Mary's notches a huge upset win as it takes down Florida 9-7. Brian Duroff went 3-5 with 2 HRs and 3 RBIs, Nathan Chong went 2-3 with a HR and 2 RBIs, and Coleman Schmidt went 2-5 with a HR.
Connor Linchey was outstanding in relief, allowing 3 ER on 5 hits across 7 IP.
Sometimes it’s the bottom of the 9th inning in a Saturday intrasquad and you get to cleat up and get after hitters.
It is confirmed that my dad bod can still produce a 91 mph fastball.
And yes, also confirmed that my body is absolutely wearing it.

One thing that never gets old for me when we host prospect camp is seeing players that have zero prior relationship picking each other up and rooting each other on. Just genuinely good dudes that love playing the game and are great teammates. Selflessness is refreshing!
The last 4 years of my life have been special. During my time @ SMC, I married my best friend, became a father to the most perfect daughter there is, bought a house, removed a cancerous tumor from my neck, and had the pleasure of working with a group of incredible players and
College freshmen...
You will be uncomfortable. You will be surrounded by players that are better than you. You will be 3-4 years of development and experience behind the seniors on the team. You will have a physical workload and time management balance that is nothing like
Came across this photo yesterday. 7 years ago I got a chance to play for the best coach, mentor, and friend there is.
Tom Kunis is the definition of a competitor. Committed to greatness, accountable, works harder than anybody and absolutely hates losing.
Portal/JC guys…
We’re getting to crunch time here now that the draft is over. It’s mid July. Coaches are finalizing rosters, if they haven’t done so already.
Its about time to shift from “I’m waiting to see if ___ school is going to offer” mode into “go where you’re

My best friend is now my wife! I love my life with you and I can’t wait to start this new journey as your husband. Here’s to forever with you; the most beautiful, thoughtful, supportive, and loving woman I could’ve ever asked for.
I love you Paris Nashed.
I don’t know how I pulled this off. Paris, you are the most supportive, genuine, hard working, loving, beautiful girl there is and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you. You’re far more than I deserve and I love you more than I will ever be able to express. (1/2)
Saint Mary’s is a special place to be. Extremely excited for this opportunity to continue to work alongside an incredible group of players and coaches that push each other to be elite.

Josh Nashed has been named our pitching coach for the 2021 season. Saint Mary's ranked near the top of the NCAA in ERA, BB/9, and WHIP. Nashed was the Director of Player Development during the 2020 season.

Baseball is in an era of change.
- Data/Metrics
- Regulation (pitch clock, etc.)
- On-field emotion
But even in an era of change, one thing holds true:
Tough, competitive & accountable players will find a way to separate from the pack and win. This is true in any industry.
💥Athletes: much has changed in the past 2 months... but plenty of things won’t change. Someone will still be fighting to take your spot. Someone will be taking the field to BEAT you. Don’t let circumstance define your work ethic. Find a way to get better and stay sharp!💥
Last week I had the opportunity to help grow the game of baseball in Cairo, Egypt as part of

weekend. It was an incredible experience interacting with the Egyptian youth and exploring some of Egypt’s historical landmarks.

This is awesome for our players. Coach Ralston has done it all…

One of the worst things you can do as an uncommitted player, or parent of one, is to play “coach” and over-analyze why other players are committed but you’re not.
“Johnny is committed to ___ school, but he hit .250 last season and I hit .340”.
Here are six reasons why this
Good v. Elite:
Good athletes and leaders are able to execute plans and work hard when asked to do so.
Elite athletes and leaders take ownership of their own development and drive others around them to be better.
Elite results stem from elite actions and preparation.

Just some perspective for players and parents...
I often hear statistical comparisons between high school players. Typically something like, "How is Johnny committed to ___ school? He's hitting .280 and my son is hitting .360!"
I get the logical thought process here, but
This is a special one for me.
Kam was the first player I ever recruited as a college coach. There was something about him even as a 14-15 year old…. dedicated to his craft and wanted the ball in his hand. He was an easy gamble.
The Rangers got a good one. Congrats big
We are more productive as players and coaches when we find the balance between competition and growth.
As a high level player, it can be easy to neglect weaknesses and areas of improvement when you are in compete/showcase mode year-round.
Congrats to Thomas Young on his commitment to San Diego State University! The Aztecs are getting a highly athletic two-way talent from Nevada.

Go out and play your game, not the version of your game that you think they want to see.
You can’t fake the funk. Whatever it is you do well as a player, just go out and do that at a high level.

The argument on the importance of Velo v. Command that has taken oven social media and created this "new school v. old school" divide is amusing. Can you succeed without one or the other? Sure. But why would you want to? Develop both!

Consistent workers become consistent performers.
You won’t find a more focused, routine oriented worker in the country.
Oh and did I mention his “stuff” is absolutely electric 🔥🔌💥
If you spend 3+ years as a pro-caliber college pitcher or catcher and are incapable of calling your own game in pro ball, you probably shouldn’t be in pro ball.
90+ % of college programs give pitchers veto power to shake pitch calls.
A college coach calling pitches is no
Ban all college coaches calling pitches. You’re ruining baseball, and are super low testosterone for that.
