🧵: Something a lot of folks don’t know about
@JoeBiden
is that he read mail from everyday Americans throughout every week of his presidency. I was responsible for sourcing a lot of those letters and settling up amplification streams with my phenomenal team in OPC (
@DearPOTUS46
).
I don’t know who needs to hear this today, but I’m 23 and have never been in a relationship. I’ve never even been asked on a date.
For so many years, this has made me feel absolutely horrible about myself. But I’m learning I’m not the only one, and I want you to know that too.
This is minuscule in the grand scheme of things, but seeing
@KamalaHarris
campaign in Converse makes me smile.
Women were not allowed to wear pants on the Senate floor until 1993. We’re taught to push through the pain of wearing heels.
Now our VP candidate is rocking sneakers.
Kamala Harris arrives in Milwaukee for her first trip as the Democratic vice presidential nominee. She will be meeting with unions and business leaders this afternoon.
Media around us: tv, film, social, is about love. It’s brought up in conversations among gal pals. When you can never relate to any of it, it’s demoralizing.
At the end of the day, you question your self-image and personality. Which part I sn’t attractive? You beat yourself up.
Nobody ever talks about this. And as much as this is one of my biggest insecurities, today I just wanted to open up about it because I know there are probably others feeling the same way: older, younger, and the same age as me.
You are beautiful. You are enough. Period.
My sister is a first time voter. Tonight, I got to bring her to her first campaign event to see
@BarackObama
speak in our city.
The photos speak for themselves 💗

"She was not accessible," they say, though she walked through rain to shake hands and listen to concerns.
There's a reason why you never saw these photos in the news or attached to articles. Let's make sure they are for the next female candidate who runs for President.
Former advance staff here: we do this for all of our principals regardless of their age! I took photos like this constantly. It helps the event run smoother when they know what to expect about hold rooms, the walk to the podium, etc.
This isn’t the gotcha y’all think it is 😵💫
SCOOP: For his events, President Biden's staffers prepare a short document with large print and photos that include his precise path to a podium, according to an event template the White House sends to staffers.
A *friendly* reminder that “Crooked Hillary” plays off the idea that women are inherently sneaky/power hungry/evil.
HRC has never been found guilty of anything, yet people still chant “lock her up” because she’s an outlet for misogyny. It’s a shame
@MeghanMcCain
plays into this.
“
@KamalaHarris
does not need my advice. Let me just be clear—she’s too humble to say it this way, but she is now going to be one of the great Black women of American history.”
Amazing and very on brand interview from
@CoryBooker
.
Stormy Daniels isn’t here for your entertainment, white male pundits. She’s here to share her story of being silenced & intimidated by a man who is now our President, a story many women can relate to. You’re playing right into the culture that allowed Trump to get away with this.
I would like to say I did 25% of
@ewarren
’s schedule today and I am absolutely wiped out. She is 3x my age and does not drink coffee.
She is, literally and figuratively, fit for the job.
Thanks for everything
@POTUS
. Being your pen pal extraordinaire in the Office of Presidential Correspondence will always be the greatest honor of my career.
What will always be the honor of my career, however, was our “traveling letter writers program” — which is, to my knowledge, the first of its kind. Every time President Biden traveled, he met with two letter writers from the area in the photo line.
@DearPOTUS46
Thank you for showing my daughters that anything is possible if they put their mind to it! Hailey came away from the inauguration with an idea to give kids a voice. President Biden read her letter, met us, and she got to inspire other kids to get the vaccine.
I will do everything in my power to elect VP
@KamalaHarris
and continue to build upon the progress of the past four years. And as I fight, I will carry with me the thousands of stories I read and the letter writers who told me their lives were forever changed by
@DearPOTUS46
💌
I routed letters about the impact of policies to the teams that worked on them — stories about how a stimulus check kept someone from getting evicted, or how the Child Tax Credit allowed a single mom to keep food on the table, or how we weren’t meeting a need that was out there.
I can estimate that I put over a hundred people in front of POTUS during my time in the White House. Not a single one of them ever had a bad thing to say about their experience. They didn't think anyone was going to read their letter, let alone the President — and care so deeply.
I honestly haven’t stopped thinking about
@SenGillibrand
refusing to answer the moderators when they were trying to get her to rip
@KamalaHarris
. She stuck to her own points and platform.
It is yet another example of her sticking to her principals. We need her in this race.
Visibility matters. Representation matters. Having a President who listens to everyday people as much as their advisors matters. This November, we have a choice in front of us to keep the doors of the White House open or allow extremists to slam them shut.
Joe Biden was not the first candidate I worked for in 2020. He wasn’t even the second. And while I haven't always agreed with him, I am so thankful to have worked for a president who firmly believed in the
@DearPOTUS46
mission: to be the eyes and ears of the American people.
I made it a point to show him letters that were not always complimentary and put people in front of him who were not super fans. It never mattered. He knew how important it was for him to hear from people directly and for them to hear directly from him.
On day one, President Biden wanted to ensure that he heard directly from the American people — and encouraged our then small but mighty team to think creatively about how we could incorporate letter writers into the day-to-day life of our administration.
If they mentioned their mother was in the hospital, I included it in the memo. If they told me that they had a specific policy concern, I flagged it for him. I received photocopies of annotations he made and could see just how much he soaked in every word of letters + bios.
Last week, Dawson, a student from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, attended the President's event to reignite the Cancer Moonshot.
Read his letter to
@POTUS
:
I’m just thinking about how
@KamalaHarris
flew in to meet with every single one of her state teams to make sure all of us were okay and proud of the work we did.
That’s just who she is and that’s just why we organized like hell for her.
Hi, PSA: please don't make threads of political staffers with their personal information because they work for an elected or candidate you don't like. It's actually really scary and could lead to something dangerous whether that's intended or not.
@POTUS
Because I’m getting a lot of questions about this, you can send a physical letter or card to President Joe Biden or Vice President Harris to:
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500
You can also email them here:
This led to the President getting 5 letters in his weekend book (affectionately known as “5LAWs” — modeled after
@BarackObama
's “10LADs”). A first-ever continuous gifts donation program to make sure local DMV organizations could benefit from the generosity of the American people.
I think seeing Kamala wear Converse is exciting because she’s wearing what she wants to wear instead of what she’s expected to wear. She’s wearing shoes that are comfortable and reflect her personality.
It’s just really cool to see this in a Veep candidate. It really is.
I don’t do this out of pettiness but genuine frustration that people are still asking this two years after she got more votes than any white male in history, including her own husband.
Please stop telling Floridians, Arizonans, and other people in states with abortion bans to "just leave." It assumes so much privilege that most folks do not have.
The onus of this should not be on those impacted. It should be on the extreme Republicans who are responsible.
@neeratanden
In my experience with Trump voters and growing up around AC, it’s not the fact that he’s a good businessman that drove them to the polls. It’s the stuff they don’t want to say out loud.
Saying you’re voting for someone because a businessman can run the country is, well, *safe*.
I had no idea this tweet was going to take off like this but I’m glad y’all love it too.

What must it be like to be more offended by a 20 year-old girl drinking rosé than a man bragging about sexually assaulting women?
I never want to know.
It’s time for a ~professional news~ update:
My heart has been filled with gratitude as I have settled into my role as a Digital Analyst in the Office of Presidential Correspondence.
Serving the American people and amplifying their stories has already been a true honor 🇺🇸

When are Democrats going to understand that we didn’t lose the Oval in 2016 because we didn’t have the *middle class* on our side?
We lost because of voter suppression, foreign interference, sexism, racism, media bias. Not because we didn’t pander to ¡white! concerns enough.
The biggest problems I have with people blaming ‘16 on HRC are:
1) It ignores huge problems of voter suppression and cyber attacks that aren’t going away.
2) It dismisses how impactful seeing a woman nominee was for millions of women.
3) It downplays racism as a main factor.
I have some ~personal news~ to share.
As of today, I am a Digital Organizer with
@NVforWarren
!
#NVertheless
, I am staying in this primary to continue to fight for progressive values + organize Trump out of office. Grateful for this opportunity to continue to learn and grow 💙
Last week I interviewed my personal hero for my documentary
@TATLGDoc
, a film that explores how
@HillaryClinton
has inspired multiple generations of women and girls.
I’m 21 years old and had never done anything to this scale before, yet she believed in me from day one. [thread]
My friend
@caththegreat012
just sent me these results from her home district. I have chills all over my body.
The Democrat won by literally one vote. One. Vote.
Don’t let anyone ever tell you your vote doesn’t matter.

When I was an organizer in Iowa, the thing I’d hear most while knocking doors was “I don’t know if I can caucus because someone has to stay home with the kids.”
This shows exactly how
@ewarren
will lead as President and I’m proud of our campaign.
#LFG
I’m going to run for office someday. It won’t be for a while. I have some things I want to do before then.
But when I do, it won’t be because of Donald Trump. It will be because of this moment and this woman.
I won’t let anybody think otherwise.
Cathy Myers, Randy Bryce's primary challenger, is being told to "go away" and drop out.
This is exactly why I got so mad when the media normalized sexism when it was directed at Hillary.
Though more women are running than ever before, they're facing the same barriers HRC did.
~Personal News Alert~
Back in January, I was one out of 22,000 who watched
@KamalaHarris
announce her run for President.
Next Tuesday, I will be a field organizer for her in Iowa.
Looks like we’re both f**king moving to Iowa
#ForThePeople
, and I couldn’t be more excited.
In 2018,
@KamalaHarris
gave all of the remaining money from her Senate campaign to down-ballot races while others were saving it for their presidential campaigns.
Her whole career has been about bringing people, especially women of color, up with her.
#ForThePeople
Just a friendly reminder that Kamala Harris was running for President and the eagerness to put her in a lower position to make a ticket look better says a lot.
I can’t (and yet sadly can) believe this has to be said but a black woman who ran the second largest justice system in the United States and currently represents the third largest state in the Senate is not a *cosmetic* choice for Vice President.
Full stop.
I want to see a line outside of the Red Hen when it opens at 5 PM today to show that it’s a good business decision to turn away people who support putting kids in cages away from their mothers.

Being at Kamala’s rally yesterday was amazing except for the part where the leftist white guy behind me started screaming harassment at her, we had to chant “Ka-ma-la!” in an attempt to silence him, and I was all too reminded of this same situation happening to Hillary in 2016.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg is still dissenting on the Supreme Court at 86.
Dolores Huerta is still knocking on doors at 88.
Rosalynn Carter is still building with Habitat for Humanity at 92.
If that isn’t motivation, I don’t know what is. Women are amazing.
@neeratanden
HRC literally came to Atlantic City, stood in front of one of his condemned casinos, and told the stories of the people he screwed over. Her campaign highlighted the story of a business owner in South Jersey who Trump owes hundreds of thousands of dollars to.
It didn’t matter.
Fact: Many people, especially women and young girls, look up to Hillary Clinton.
Opinion: I like Hillary Clinton.
You can accept the fact without having the opinion. Let's stop playing these games in 2018.
