Metro Manila is not congested; While developing cities outside of Metro Manila is important, it will not solve mobility problems if the Government fails to shift strategy. Instead, better land use and better road allocation in and outside Metro Manila 🏠⛳️🚘

This is how much the Government prioritizes the minority of 12% in motor vehicles - turning what would have simply been a 33m at-grade crossing into a 667m circuitous journey of walking up and down, walking across, and squeezing through for commuters #CommutersNaman

There’s a lot of excitement over rail; but the government fails to understand that it needs to function with other modes like jeeps and buses to bring people to stations. We can’t tap the full potential of rail if they ignore the importance of a transport ecosystem.

“….transportation agencies have long understood that motor vehicle speed plays a key role in fatal and serious crashes,” Meanwhile, Metro Manila’s regional authority, despite claims to promoting road safety, speed remains a metric for success Credits: @gmanews @Joseph_Morong

We need a shift in mindset: 1. The hierarchy of road users dictate that vulnerable road users come first; 2. Designing streets for the most vulnerable is designing streets for all; 3. Complete Streets: Space distributed equitably such that there is space for all Source: @NACTO

We need better decision-makers that can go beyond piece-meal policies. What the country needs is a sound plan that covers mobility at all stages and for the most vulnerable, above all else; Only then can we improve mobility for all.

Rail will not solve our problems if it’s not designed to complement other modes of transport and vv; this violation of the Building Code, ie during construction, a temporary walkway should be provided, is evidence of Government’s failure to see the need for a system. 📍MMSP

The popularity of e-trikes is in part because of a broken transportation system; As people rely on it, the Government decides to ban it. Meanwhile, it continues with its policy to favor inefficient modes of transportation that is in fact the cause of crippled mobility 😑

First, it is the DUTY of government to provide transportation FOR ALL. Second, the program ended past 10PM - well after the last trips. Third, EDSA Busway Libreng Sakay is only until 11PM - people who rode it, PAID. Now, go and face the thousands of stranded people. Explain.

It’s time for the practice of engineering to evolve; start recognizing that it’s time to reverse decades of attempts to improve mobility through large, car-oriented infrastructure. The appeal is to new civil engineers to question standards and be better than those before them.

Thank you @MMDA - Metro Manila Destruction Agency. Ang ayos-ayos ng sidewalk sa Julia Vargas sinira nila for an absolute waste of tax money. You’re an unwelcome guest in our city. Classic case of why our roads are congested: MMDA promotes car use vs. walking.

Makati slowly being converted to a city for people - and it’s an easy template for more cities to follow. Salcedo Parking is now an expansion of the Salcedo Park, Paseo Center parking now hosts the weekly Salcedo Market, and several street parking to restaurant seating.

Despite public opposition, MMDA releases IRR on e-trike ban. Big Picture: There is a drastic need for the President to direct addressing mobility issues once and for all. e-trike popularity is simply a manifestation of the Government’s failure to answer the basic needs.

Look at this mindset: “So probably magkakasa kami ng joint operations pa rin para mahuli…” More and more we see that MMDA is being given responsibility way beyond its capacity; They’ve lost all humanity. Too focused on restriction and apprehension; Where’s the solution?

Local and Mid-Term Elections are coming up May 2025. Let’s make transportation, and mobility in general, a key issue for all of us Filipinos. Let’s start listing down Government Officials that have been showing regression and stagnancy in their mobility programs.

Insensitive remarks from a *representative* of the people. One reason the public clamors for government officials to take public transportation - which may actually hasten the solution to our transport problems 😅 2025 is an election year; let’s make this an election issue

The haste to restrict the mobility of ordinary Filipinos - victims of a broken transport system, is unjustified. What requires urgent attention is redesign for more inclusive infrastructure and the proper implementation of the PUV Modernization Program. #CommutersNaman

Janitor at @starbucksph moved the counter so I can fit my trifold and said: "Naiintindihan kita kasi biker din ako (then points to his bike outside)" THIS is why bikers are referred to as a community 🫰🏼and why we need real people for meaningful policies and infrastructure.

Side trip to Baclaran Church - as it turns out, also a refuge for a lot of people. Why the government doesn’t see the value in parks is prolly because they’re simply not looking. It’s time to measure our cities against metrics that matter to actual people.
