In the glitch in my post, Mario can still defeat the Stus. However, a rarer version of the glitch, found by Super Mario Sunshine expert

SR3 takes a low-res image (64x64) & progressively adds noise until only pure noise remains. It then learns to reverse this process, removing noise to create a 1024x1024 image.
