Less than 24 hours after the formation of the extremist government in Syria, @indefchristians mobilized to advise congressional leaders and @StateDept officials. On January 7-8, @indefchristians had the honor to join His Holiness @MorAphremII, Patriarch of the #Syriac Orthodox Church, and His Eminence @Bishop_Kawak in Washington, DC. His Holiness and IDC met with Members of Congress and @StateDept, including: @SpeakerJohnson, @RepJames, @RepAaronBean, @RepLaHood, @USAIDMiddleEast, @StateDept_NEA, @StateSPEHA, and others. His Holiness briefed policymakers on the status of Christians in Syria in the wake of the fall of the Assad regime, and as the new HTS-led Syrian government takes shape. His Holiness also called on the Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs to prioritize its ongoing effort to investigate the abduction of Syriac Orthodox Archbishop Youhanna Ibrahim and Greek (Antiochian) Orthodox Archbishop Paul Yaziji.
