@YIMBYLAND They have a shit economy and they despise success. Ask anyone in the business world what companies are philly - the only one they can name is Comcast, a ho hum cable business. When @gopuff raised $750M the main philly newspapers railed on them for “selling out”.

@elonmusk Patterson Belknap said in court filings that jews on the verge of being lynched at @cooperunion should have simply “hidden in the attic”.

@NikkiHaley not gonna happen
I see headlines claiming that the Palestinian Authority is canceling its payments to terrorists and their families, a program known as "pay for slay." They are doing no such thing - They themselves say the payments "are subject to the same standards." The PA is just restructuring the mechanism through which they pay terrorists so that they can claim it's not them, it's an "independent" foundation doing it. An "independent" foundation funded by the PA and whose board is appointed by PA President Mahmoud Abbas.

@ashishkjha @NIH How disingenuous of you to 'arbitrarily' choose top 7 as your metric - it's not because Yale is #8 right? Trash, shut up and take the L.

Guy trying to justify 65% of research grants being used to fund woke university administrators at $200K/year salaries. The people who actually watch football aren't fooled by your attempt to connect with them. It's transparent.

He says this wouldn't any knowledge of who is being let go. Not an iota of digging to understand the rationale. Every immediate family member of mine who works for the government - 4 of them - coast every single day. Not a worry in the world, not a shred of commitment.

Can you break down exactly how much of the 'indirect costs' in your current research goes to admin vs the rest (electricity, heat, water, lab safety, facilities)? More importantly: is it appropriate that >60% of your grant is not being spent on your direct research subject?
Indirect cost supports core lab infrastructure- electricity, heat, water for research, lab safety (biohazard, chemical hazard, etc), facilities and admins. This decision is suicidal for Americans to stay as a leader in science and medical innovation.

People like @darbysaxbe knew that their institutions were skimming massive amounts of funding from research grants, but chose not to say anything. Now something is actually being done to correct the insanity of this situation, and Darby cries foul. You had your chance.
If your goal was to weaken the competitiveness of the USA by destroying research universities and hobbling scientific progress, you'd be delighted about this news.

@Noahpinion Fair point. Also - 500k mortgage w/ 20% down payment = $2.5M house. How much does the gov pay again??? A house in tony Westchester, NY costs less than that.

@simonmontefiore re your convo with @bariweiss, do you still think the israeli government is “weaponizing” the holocaust? Not since 1945 have we witnessed emancipated, starved, beaten jews emerge from the captivity of inhuman beasts - history repeats itself.
Israel’s Foreign Minister: “The images that we saw today don't lie. The terrorists and Gazan residents look perfectly fine. The hostages look like Holocaust survivors. They are the only ones that have been starved!”

It’s interesting - my bubble of center lefties who reluctantly voted for Kamala’s are all relieved. It’s like the spell has been lifted.
Matt has changed my mind on this. My first impulse is always to snark at people who supported Trump and are now realizing they made a mistake. This impulse is bad. The right thing to do is to welcome converts with open arms, always.

@Noahpinion That’s rich coming from a country that has chosen to commit civilizations suicidal. Maybe once they get a handle on nuclear power, birth rates and immigration he’ll earn the right to be taken seriously.

This is fantastic actually - if this continues, the incentive to lie (or just jump the gun) will decrease to zero. More of this!
we are breathing in the fumes of the worst information environment ive ever seen. the time between seeing a viral tweet and seeing it disproven is collapsing to zero
