Because of those 2 things Cooper is playing roughly 3-5 yards above the catch point at all times by design in this system, he isn't expected to stop recievers from catching the ball, he is expected to come down and make an early tackle, and in EPA he ranks 3rd in the league

The position is literally listed as NCB (Nickel-Cornerback) in the vast majority of college/pro playbooks 💀, it's not debatable, it's a more tackling-intensive position so some safeties play it but most Nickels are corners in the nfl.
