We just got the news that our paper "Hacking the Colony: On the Disruptive Effect of Misleading Pheromone and How to Defend against It" won the Best Paper Award at @aamas2022. Many thanks to the conference organizers! w/ Ashay Aswale, Tony Lopez, Aukkawut Ammartayakun

@DrJimminy I suggest fediscience. It's well maintained and dedicated to scientists in general. A few people you know are there too. I cannot share the direct link due to free speech absolutism, but add .org to the name and you'll find it.

"Instead of using Blockchain" should be a full sentence no matter the problem at hand

Instead of using blockchain for digital currency and burning billions, can we use it to design voting technology so that every cell phone can be a reliable voting booth? Certifiable and privacy preserving? Leaving no room for anyone to question voting fairness and accessibility?

@palizadesuerte @BallouxFrancois The timelines of Mastodon is chronological. There's no algorithm trying to pique your interest. This makes the experience of Mastodon different – not ideal for everybody. Personally I like it.

@magnificentb @BallouxFrancois Yes. Most servers were small just 7 days ago – they need time to adapt to the massive influx of people. Mastodon is driven by unpaid volunteers and it doesn't have profit as its goal. A little bit of patience is all that is needed right now.

@BallouxFrancois @R_Hughes1 I agree, but given Elon's aversion to admit defeat, he might decide to cover the losses on his own. He remains the richest man in the world – he can keep going for a while. At least for as long as he's getting what he wants out of this place.

@roboticseabass My timeline at the moment is about 20% people from my local server and 80% people from outside. It looks like Twitter without the polemic hot takes.

@a_baronca No. The opposite: federation makes it possible to have well-moderated communities and diminish the noise. Twitter is an endless list of polemic hot takes. It's entertaining but divisive, the signal-to-noise ratio is low. Make moderation less effective and Twitter's value is null.
