Totally disapprove of this prissy, bourgeois, let’s-ask-daddy-Khan manner of removing statues. Look how inelegant, how unpoetic this is compared to Colston’s epic, exhilarating downfall. These are public monuments. They belong to us. The state should butt out of it.
UPDATE: The statue of slave trader Robert Milligan has now been removed from West India Quay.
It’s a sad truth that much of our wealth was derived from the slave trade - but this does not have to be celebrated in our public spaces.

It is my sincere contention that Glenn Branca was one of the greatest 20th century conductors. Also more conductors should smoke and drink while conducting. (Also would have fucking loved to have heard his Bruckner.)
Starting our advent calendar with the late great Glenn Branca at LCMF 2013. Holding a fag and whisky bottle throughout, he conducted the UK premiere of Twisting In Space in the middle of a thunderstorm. It was our third ever concert and it was wild! Great shot by
