We are recognizing Chronic Wasting Disease Awareness Week, Sept. 23-29. The goal is to help hunters and others who value Idaho’s wildlife learn and understand why managing the disease is critical to Idaho’s future and the role hunters play in it.

The Idaho Fish and Game Commission approved a 9-day chronic wasting disease surveillance hunt in a small portion of Unit 1 starting August 24 with the goal of collecting additional samples to better understand disease prevalence and distribution.

Recent test results have confirmed a positive case of chronic wasting disease in an adult female white-tailed deer roughly 3 miles outside of Bonners Ferry in hunting Unit 1. The positive test result marks the first known case of CWD in north Idaho.
