This should not be mistaken for actual Salafiyah . The "Salafiyah" of Muhammad Abduh and Jamal al-Din al-Afghani was a Neo-Sufi Ashari/mutazili modernist movement influenced by Freemasonry and other kufri beliefs.
They have been refuted heavily by the salafi scholars.
In 1900 Muhammad ‘Abduh gave a fatwah declaring Riba halal. And the Viceroy of Egypt, Lord Cromer, said about his freemason ‘friend’: “I suspect my friend ‘Abduh was in reality an agnostic,” and of his Salafi movement: “They are natural allies of the European reformer”.
