In 1986 my cousin Bill Brooks, Jr was drafted to the Indy Colts in the 4th round. Made Rookie All AFC team. Played & started for 10 years in the NFL.
Today, in the 4th round of the NFL draft those Colts drafted my little brother Khari Willis to the NFL for his own journey!

AAU. High School. College.
We talk to each other.
If the kid is good, but the parent is toxic, every coach in the state likely knows.

They don’t post every workout online for the clout of people they don’t even know to applaud. They just work to be the best player they can possibly be.

1 thing I have noticed is:
ZERO have asked me about how many points a player averages.
If you want to catch their attention, play whatever role is needed for your team to WIN.
They all like winners, more than anything else.

My coaching objective when I have kids that are 3rd-8th grade:
At the time the player walks into their high school they should be fundamentally sound, mentally tough, have a high motor, and easy to coach.
Every school has a different system but every one requires these 4 things

About 312 DII schools.
About 441 DIII schools.
And roughly 300 NAIA schools (split into 2 Divisions!)
ONLY 65 of them are Power 5 schools. 65!
Scholarships opportunities are out there. Some parents just need to refocus your child’s attention

This needs to be heard more often. Some kids aren’t getting recruited, because college coaches don’t have time to deal with their parents. 👀
If you want to know how to best help your kid, act like you have some sense and support the team: not just one number on the team.
A response to a question asked of me today regarding parents coaching their kids and being helicopter parents later…take heed!

So many players futures have been put on hold waiting for a decision about their season, when the AAU circuit would have been a prime opportunity for them!

Two teams can play against each other all game long, as you would in any normal game...but they can’t do a jump ball, or shake hands afterwards...
