@CannyJimKenny @BethRigby Those with a plurality of votes will ‘win’ but those that ‘lose’ will have representation equal to their proportion of votes. The UK would look like this - a Labour/LD/Green coalition would have plurality of seats

@CannyJimKenny @BethRigby Those who use proportional voting where seats are determined on votes cast not by winner takes all. I doubt any are perfect but most do much better than ours and having some constituency link is good to have

@CannyJimKenny @BethRigby I will make it simple for you. 3 constituencies. One X wins against Y 100-0. Other two Y wins 51-49. Do total votes is 198-102 and yet Y wins all. FPTP also favours gerrymandering of constituencies

@CannyJimKenny @BethRigby Now Labour more scared of Reform so that dictates policy So will abandon voters in those safe multicultural urban seats where they are likely to win to pander to xenophobes

@CannyJimKenny @BethRigby But it cannot be described as being very democratic and it doesn’t change the fact that small changes in votes in some places can have a disproportionate effect on the number of seats won

@CannyJimKenny @BethRigby Governments voted in with huge majorities on low plurality will be especially vulnerable to this and a correction could be very painful

@CannyJimKenny @BethRigby In our FPTP it is dependent on constituency. You have admitted so yourself. ‘Piling up votes in safe constituencies’ is used as a criticism where winning by 1 vote in a marginal is considered ‘masterful’. In a proper system all losers and winners votes would have an impact

@CannyJimKenny @BethRigby It is manipulation of an inherently undemocratic system. You say it is democratic but are continually contradicting yourself by emphasising how the process can be ‘gamed’

@CannyJimKenny @BethRigby My definition of democracy is that we have one person one vote and each vote has equal ‘power’. What is your definition?

@TimesRadio @angelaeagle @KateEMcCann @StigAbell Well she did lie about who attacked her constituency office a few years back and supported expulsion without any indication of due process so forgive me if I believe she should shove her opinion where the sun doesn’t shine

@CannyJimKenny @BethRigby More like manipulating an undemocratic process to your benefit which may be a masterstroke in some people’s eyes but has nothing to do with what most would call democratic.
