Pride began at Stonewall. The Stonewall liberation movement was a direct response to police injustice against LGBTQ people. It was led by Black and Brown activists, and Howard Brown Health is indebted to them for their actions against oppression.
Howard Brown Health was founded in 1974 in the wake of the Stonewall Riots. Nearly 50 years later, we continue to fight for the wellbeing of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer people in Chicago, the Midwest, and across the country.

One of the most common misconceptions about sexual violence is that the people who cause sexual harm do so out of uncontrolled sexual desire. Sexual assault is about power and control, and sexual violence against LGBTQ people is often motivated by homophobia/biphobia/transphobia.
