on my first trek, they had us catch trout for dinner. not with a rod, mind you. they set up a man made pond for us to catch trout *with our bare hands* and gut and kill them. we were only allowed to eat what we caught. there weren’t enough fish to begin with for everyone.
Just to be clear, the "trauma" she is talking about is a 3 day hiking (most <25 mi) and camping trip where they drive you and your gear to your destination and then adults take off work and volunteer their time to supervise you, cook most of your meals, and plan fun activities
