The former PM championed Ethiopia’s agri-food systems transformation and is now a leading voice for all of Africa. Earlier this week, I joined the training sessions of 140 youth (men and women) representing every district in #SierraLeone to operate, service and repair agricultural machinery 🚜.This 90-day training comes at a critical time as prepare for the 2025 cultivation. Each trainee will receive a certificate, captured in our database and will be employable in mechanisation services sector across the country. With this training, we are changing individual lives and communities ,while addressing a critical gap in mechanisation services of the #FeedSalone flagship. In this second full year #FeedSalone Implementation we are shifting into high gear .Thanks to @AfDB_Group for the support through the SLARiS Project. #WeWillFeedSalone #foodsystems #mechanisation

At the Extraordinary AU Summit, African Heads of States just adopted the CAADP Strategy and Action Plan: 2026-2035 and Kampala Declaration. This becomes continental body’s policy instrument for boosting productivity in agriculture and food systems in Africa for the next ten years. On behalf of @PresidentBio , #SierraLeone endorses this new strategy which encompasses all the critical elements of our #FeedSalone strategy including emphasise on post-harvest loss reduction by promoting processing, intra-Africa Agriculture Trade, nutrition, inclusivity and equitable livelihoods, and resilience. Thank you H.E @KagutaMuseveni for graciously hosting and continuing to push for a true #African independence and sovereignty. Thank you @AUC_CAADP for organising. African Ministers of Agriculture and Foreign Affairs convene in Kampala to shape the next ten-year strategy for agriculture and food systems in Africa, in preparation for an African Union extraordinary summit of Heads of State. Despite the various challenges, the CAADP agenda has proven to be, one of the African Union's most impactful policy frameworks in transforming food systems in Africa. With a much stronger foundation than when the Maputo Declaration was made 20 years ago, I am confident that this 10-year strategy will drive significant progress by adopting a food systems perspective and all-of-government approach for its implementation. Thank you @FrankTumwebazek for leading the process to draft the strategy and @josefaSacko for organising this well timed event.

We have been given these hand-held machines to vegetable farmers across the country. I tried using one today. They are very effective; miminum tillage and you cover lots of ground quickly. But you do need to have some stamina to push for long. Maybe it’s coming off the holiday, but I could only do a few rows. I needed a healthy salad after all that!

What a year we have had. We had our last staff meeting of the year yesterday. It was heartwarming to hear staff appreciate and thank each other. Everyone was proud of what we have all accomplished this year, delivering on @PresidentBio’s flagship. A touching moment for me was when one of the longest serving volunteers called me an “old timer”. He meant it as a compliment, noting his appreciation for the steady leadership and focus the Ministry now enjoys. We will work even harder and smarter next year to build on this year’s gains.

The Gbondapi rice hub got a big boost this weekend as we kicked off the construction of a 800 ha irrigation scheme and a rice processing complex with a milling capacity of 8 MT per hour supported by @AfDB_Group. This development and ongoing work in other hubs - Torma Bum and feasibility work in Kambia, brings the #FeedSalone strategic approach to action on the ground for our people.
