Welcome to all my new followers. A quick reminder that this little beauty is now out in paperback! Andrew Marr calls it “original and gripping”, the Telegraph gave it 5 stars, the Mail called it “fascinating”. Y’all might enjoy it too…

The Art of Laundry. The Laundress by Paul Sandby, 1780. Attractive laundress being chatted up by handsome soldier was a frequent subject for 18thC artists, who tended to eroticise the women. This may have been sketched in Hyde Park, a frequent site of military encampments…

The Art of Laundry. The prolific Quebecois painter Marc-Aurèl Fortin (1888-1970) stopped painting for seven years in old age due to ill-health (he lost both legs to diabetes). He still managed to produce more than 8,000 works… (via Rita M Sjoholm, A World of Washing on FB)
