Not bad. I'm 40, I just paid off my house in the city 13 years early, and closed on some land near a lake in the country that I expect to have paid off in a third as much time. I have excellent credit, good health, and I expect to retire in my early 50's.

My van shuts its engine off when I come to a complete stop, then starts back up again when I take my foot off the break, unless I press a button to disengage that feature every time I drive. It's the dumbest feature in automotive history. I can only assume California is to blame.

Hank is right. I never voted for Trump, because I thought he spent money too recklessly and chose not to defend whistleblowers & journalists, but I was very impressed by his lack of a filter, his willingness to fire people, and reference for diplomacy over military imperialism.

I'm quite content. Whether you call that happiness or not, is up to you. I spend probably 90%+ of my time alone, though I wouldn't say I'm lonely. I can only take dealing with other people for short amounts of time anyway. I don't even have or want a pet.

I find the Disney employee to be in the right in this case. If you're on someone else's private property, you have no reasonable expectation that you'll be allowed to use it & the equipment on it for purposes that are not agreed to by the property owner. It's Romeo's fault.

This was all considered. With 12 months, the seasons are all three months long, and this is much more useful for an agricultural society than the lunar cycles are.

As someone who IS me, I can report that if you were me, you would not be afraid of the future. I've grown very much accustomed to and comfortable with having no dependents. Apparently long-term practice becomes one's second nature comfort zone. Neuriplasticity is a blessing.

I didn't go to college, but I did graduate high school. 22 years later I answer 9-1-1 calls, and I just paid off my mortgage 13 years ahead of schedule. No kids. No pets. No significant other. No major health concerns. No complaints. Thinking of starting a garden this year.

I don't know. I've never been good at predicting my own behavior years in advance, but I've gotten pretty good at understanding how I react emotionally to situations, and based on that, I'm pretty confident that I'll be okay.

I've met old men who had kids & wives & told me they wish they'd taken my route. Old widowed grandads who've said I'm smart. I don't know about that, but I suspect the secret to happiness is not the lifestyle you live, but how frequently you recognize & appreciate your blessings.

I'll find out when I get there. I count my blessings impulsively, and am not prone to dwell on missed opportunities. I doubt that this personality trait will fade. I have an almost off-putting tendency to reflexively accept and make light of even the most traumatic circumstances.

The "Bobiverse" trilogy is the closest I've seen. But also check out these five Rama books by Arthur C Clarke. Some great hard sci-fi. If it's imaginative epic alien encounter books you're after, I also recommend John Varley's Gaea trilogy.

Sure, I might consider it. I have considered it before. I might consider it again. This lifestyle is not a commitment. It's a convenience. My history with girlfriends is that I don't try to retain them. Most people don't want that in a partner.
