Heat Initiative is a collective effort encouraging leading technology companies to detect and eradicate child sexual abuse images and videos on their platforms.

@josephmenn @washingtonpost At Heat Initiative, we are for privacy and for ending the spread of child sexual abuse material. We believe protecting children and respecting privacy are not mutually exclusive, and presenting a false choice between them will hinder each of their progress.

Within 24 hours of looking, we found hundreds of inappropriate apps rated as suitable for kids in @Apple's App Store. Parents don’t need guesswork, they need transparency. They deserve to know when something is unsafe for their child. @ptogetheraction

Like so many survivors, the plaintiffs in this lawsuit live with the reality that the worst moments of their lives are stored and shared by abusers on the platforms we all use every day, including iCloud. Their bravery is the center of this story.
Victims of child sexual abuse are suing Apple, arguing that the company abandoned a 2021 system it developed to find abusive material, forcing them to relive the trauma that has shaped their lives.
