@frances__lorenz lmao this is amazing I feel like you could in fact make EA seem that cool if you're smoking by a pool and no one's heard of the trolley problem. I got a great reception once to an extremely basic take since it was just so new to my audience

@robertskmiles @JeffLadish No idea, let me check. I had it made when you first posted this to Dank EA Memes which must have been years ago

@yoavtzfati This implies to me that it scales closer to linearly if my two copies are having distinct enough happy experiences, but not if they're the same simulation.

@DeepDishEnjoyer I'm not sure who this is so there may be a reason to not give this person the benefit of the doubt, but FWIW I think this statement makes sense: aspiring to achieve the combination of two people's traits but acknowledging that you won't get there ever.

@yoavtzfati I'm utilitarian about making the world a better place, but I also value my personal responsibilities to others and my own happiness. Vaguely utilitarian is probably the best succinct way to describe this, though.

@yoavtzfati Caveat: I of course have lots of uncertainty here, so the strongly framed answer above is weakly held. Think of it more like a certain view of what I think is going on which I prefer to any other view that I can clearly articulate

@yoavtzfati I would be okay with an exact copy of my mind uploaded even with no "continuity of self", but honestly I'm not entirely sure what "continuity of self" means since consciousness and identity are philosophically messy

@yoavtzfati Curious to hear more about this, since I feel like there were a bunch of different relationship dynamics presented, some of which were explicitly toxic and some of which were (probably nonintentionally) cringy

@LinchZhang Do you have an example of a case where this insight would influence one's decision making?
