@EmathsUK I always tell my trainees to read it but with a pinch of salt. Local knowledge will always trump Ofsted. E.g. I have encouraged our trainees to apply to an Ofsted “inadequate” school because they will be well-supported (and their P8 this summer was +0.51!)

@greeborunner As @Suchmo83 will argue the picture is more rosy in England than in the other three nations. But the executives in NI and Wales are now beginning to put SSP at the heart of their approaches to early reading, which is promising. But it will take time

I made a conscious effort to use “I Say You Say” and choral response when teaching our unit on the Holocaust this half-term to Year 9. As a result, the number of students who embedded key subject-specific vocabulary in their writing was much higher than previous years.
*New post!* Choral response & 'I Say You Say' are two techniques I use with high frequency during my explanations. Although they seem simple, there is a lot of thinking behind them.

I was wrong on this one - but that’s because I thought Phillipson understood her own bill
7) Academy freedoms. There will be a three-year plan for academies who pay staff above national payscales to bring them back in line with national pay, without seeing their salaries cut. This won’t be popular. All schools will be mandated to publish their 1265 on their websites.

4) Ofsted. The scorecard will be similar to what’s been reported, but eight areas rather than ten. There will be a grading/colour-coding system proposed. NAHT/ASCL will kick off, and they will settle on a pass/fail for each sub-category and overall strengths/AFIs aimed at parents

I assume that if RE becomes a National Curriculum subject then parents will lose their right to withdraw their child? @missdcox

I look forward to reading this and evaluating our school’s practice with our weakest and weaker readers (2ndry) in accordance - from what I have heard about the book so far, there are a lot of parallels, but open to ideas as to what we can do differently (or the same but better)
My new book, Primary Reading Simplified, is released this Monday (27th January). Briefly, I'd like to explain why it exists, who I think will find it useful and where you can find it. >>
