my #indiehackathon project, botroast, is coming taking shape 🤖🔥🥩. using @ScreenshotOneHQ to capture the landing page via the url entered provided by the user. then using gpt vision to analyze the image, with a hefty prompt. still need to fine tune the output from openai.

as a software engineer by trade, when you're indie hacking you almost have to unlearn most of the skills you've worked so hard to accumulate over the years. engineering is long-lived, maintainable. using engineering best practices as an indie dev will likely leave you stuck in.

one thing i'm not enjoying about building 12 products in 12 months is that a majority of my marketing efforts either need to be baked into the app or they occur on launch day. this is a bummer because i have seen flashes of traction, but haven't been able to carve out enough.

🐻 new landing page for my chrome extension, Theodore AI that helps you understand confusing topics in 3 clicks. seems like the stripe buy buttons don't play nice with chrome extensions using manifest v3 so had to embed them on the landing page and not directly in the extension

🧪 experiment time. a week ago i removed all free credits from @BotRoastMe, originally when a user signed up they would get 3 free credits . since removing all free credits, i've had 42 new sign ups and 1 paid customer. = 2.38% conversion rate. is this decent?. not sure if this.

this is a great talk by @gustaf on getting users and tapping into growth engineering tactics. ironically, the key takeaway for me at this point in time is to focus more on product-market fit, retention, talking to users, and just making something people want before worrying.

@sama custom instructions are great. would love to see the ability to quickly toggle off custom instructions for a particular chat in one click rather than 3 clicks (menu > custom instructions > enabled for new chats). or better yet, have different custom instruction "personas" that.
