I’m SO happy to share the preprint of the final chapter of my PhD This work started way back in 2018 so it feels very special and bit surreal to see it all together πŸ₯Ή It’s a super cool story about two CetZs coordinating their functions to control cell morphogenesis 1/3

This was the first time Min proteins have been found to regulate tubulin homologues in archaea (cool!) An accompanying study from @MeghaPatro and @Archaellum showed they also direct archaellum and chemotaxis proteins to cell poles

New paper alert! MinD is famously known for positioning FtsZ at mid-cell in bacteria In our study, myself and @iduggin found that MinD homologues in H. volcanii influence the localisation of CetZ1, a homologue of FtsZ and tubulin #Archaea #microbiology

@iduggin Naturally, the online thesis submission process is very anti-climactic as you can tell from my reaction. I swear I’m happy!

Be sure to check out the preprint for lots more amazing images and videos of these beautiful proteins 😍 This movie of a CetZ1 filament rapidly depolymerising in stationary phase cells is one of my all time favourites. I hope everyone loves this story as much as I do πŸ’™πŸ©΅
