In less than a day, the press are going to post their first thoughts about Firmament. The game is going to be released shortly after. This is one of the most terrifying periods of time in game dev -- sharing your baby (that has been gestating for multiple years!) with the world.
It's been hard to keep this news quiet for so long, but the team has absolutely been KILLIN it working on getting Myst to look & run well on PC (2D & PCVR), AND Mac! You can wishlist here:

It has felt amazing to see the wildly positive reactions and reviews coming out in support of our release of Riven, but the most incredible part about it all is how many people assume we are (or hold us to the standards of) a AAA studio based on what we were able to ship.
I can't stop thinking about how we managed to ship Myst in VR (on Quest and PC VR), AND have the 2D version of Myst win Mac Game of the Year this year. Has this ever been accomplished before by another game/team? Dayum. So proud of the

Ok y'all, I now present to you... Myst: Slender Man mode... in a painfully jank custom Myst Island map (not at all what you would ever see in the game). I was literally so shocked at the end that I gasped. 10/10 would make again. And yes, Atrus can walk all over Myst Island here.
The ironic part about this assumption is that Riven’s total budget was ***less than 2%*** of what most popular AAA game studios are able to work with nowadays for a release.

Today is one of those days where I am honestly shook and SO thankful that I get to work on a remake of Riven, arguably one of the best puzzle games ever made. Very excited that it’s finally a reality after 25 (!!!) years, and will one day be able to share it with you all.
Our character team on Riven was composed of one (1!!!!!!!) person for most of the project. We had about five programmers for the last year of the project – and only one before that – making sure the game supported both 2D **and** VR gameplay (because we are insane).
Riven’s extremely positive reception is a testament to the kind of team we’ve managed to build here at Cyan. We’re a small team of very, VERY passionate and talented people whose whole goal is to deliver games that both challenge and mean something to people.
Reflecting on some wins this last year:
- Shipped Firmament
- Showed Riven remake gameplay for the first time
- Got major featuring on Apple's hardware RT announcements
- Worked with amazing talent on Riven across multiple different shoots
- Grew the team
So incredibly thankful.

today. Today we also celebrated the career of Victoria Almond, who is retiring after 18 (!!) years of running our press/PR system, managing the QA department, and more at Cyan.
Yesterday, we had a pre-launch party for Firmament. It was great to celebrate all of the hard work we put into this game! Even at 5:00 yesterday, one hour before the party, we managed to squeeze in an updated build for the press. I can’t believe we’re shipping in 5 days…
Many of the folks here at

have been here for over 15, 20 years. Some even longer. Some folks are much newer to the team but have been huge fans of our games for almost their entire lives.
People see the level of fidelity we shipped in Riven, especially in our Windows/Mac release, and are elated – or disappointed – when it either manages or fails to meet their standards for other titles they’ve played with hundreds of millions or dollars more in budget than we had.
We love what we do, and we want to keep doing it for many years to come. We love (and sometimes hate) that we are somehow being held to such high standards, even if it is absolutely terrifying considering the very much NOT AAA-level resources we have to make it happen.

I will have you all know that I asked the team internally to vote "yes" or "no" with green or red emoji checkboxes if this patch update name is too cringe, and all I got were 10 weed emoji responses.
If you hear "go outside and touch grass," now you can just head to Myst Island!
